I bought this shotgun mic originally for my HDR-FX1000 HD advanced camcorder and it has worked brilliantly for over three years now. It works well on the A77, too, with the supplied mount adapter in the mandatory automatic gain mode (that APS-C sensor camera does not have optional manual sound gain adjustments). Yet the shotgun mic sound quality on the A77 is still far superior to the in-camera mic. Plus it is less prone to pick up lens focus motor noises due to its directionality. Now it is also doing frequent duty on my new full frame A99 SLT without the need for a mount adapter. Like on the advanced camcorder, I can raise or lower the sound level adjustment at will based upon the recording situation. When one considers the high cost of the A99's XLR professional sound kit, this mic is a steal value-wise. It gets the job done, providing enhanced sound quality that helps the impact of my video recordings whether sports action or intimate interviews. But it's good to know higher level XLR system sound recording options are available for the A99 should the need ever arise.

Build quality matches the price, feels flimsy but does the job very well.

I bought this microphone to use with my HDR-CX760V, it showed in the accessories that it was compatible. When it arrived I noiced that it would not fit in the Active Interface Shoe (see picture). I had to buy an adapter for it. Overall I am very happy with the microphone.

I was pleasantly surprised with this microphone. I use it with my NEX-VG20 and I love how it is powered right off the camera. I will be using it as well with a boom pole so I tested it out with a high quality, 25ft extension cable. It remains powered and quality is exactly the same. It's a great, basic shotgun that does the trick. There is some humming in the background, but the mic picks up everything so well that it could just be the room noise. I have yet to use this outdoors.
