Bought this a month ago and so far I'm really glad I did. Very pricey for what it is but in comparison to other knives of this style I really like this. Other comparisons include the Buck 119 the cold steel SRK you know 6" blades with hollow grinds so compared to those this one out of box out cuts them both without modifying. The sheath is still up for thoughts as we'll see how it holds up. Doesn't appear or smell or feel like real leather but again it's still new so we'll see. May be more of a presentation knife over a user knife but I intend to use my stuff regardless of the cost ot was designed to cut. Not chop just slice and cut as a knife should. And at that it does very well. Holds an edge fairly well for its steel. Very easy to resharpen. The bluing is very beautiful and has held up so far to what I've put it through. May Mae a kydex sheath for it and this will probably be my new go to. The leather stacked handle needs extra care but I love the look so it's worth it to me. Gonna give it a few more months of use and I may get the other model with rubber Kraton handle for using without worrying about the grip soaking too much water. But definitely feels awesome. The bolster is chamfered very comfortably so makes it very comfortable to hold and use. Though not a choil , you can carefully use the portion as one below the Ricasso to choke up and get closer to the edge. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase thankyou Sog for the first time purchase discount code which helped me pull the trigger. Wish I knew I woulda liked it I would have also purchased the larger version too along with the stainless coated version also. lol

Beautiful knife. Wish I'd had this when I was in the Army. I do believe it would take the abuse I would've put it through. I'm a collector now so it is one of my safe queens. Great product and worth the price. Good quality.

Ben Baker knew what he was doing when he designed this knife for MAC V SOG. I've been wanting one for about 15 yrs now. My Grandfather In Law was in CCC and told me stories. The weight and the feel lets you know that you are holding an anti personnel knife for sure. There is a space between the blade edge and hand guard. Ben said this was for you to place your index finger to remove the knife if it hung up on bone, sinew, or clothing. Look up the history on it. I'm proud to own a piece of history. It's not a sterile original, but it's mine!

I am a retired Special Forces soldier and a collector of weapons,especially weapons used by Special Forces. This is the knife that was issued to the MAC SOG guys in Vietnam. A must for any collector. Love it.

I bought a folder the tomcat,I paid 300 bux,if it hadn't been stolen I'd still have it.Blued blade,leather washer grips,just great all around.there was the Trident,the other was great and made for UDTs,2 were left out of 50,its the Holy grails of modern knives.the SEAL pup,great new knife,you'll not be disappointed!!!

I bought this knife at an Army Surplus store about 5 years ago, I wasn't looking for a bowie blade but when I held it the balance was so good I had to buy it. I also like knives with natural material grips. The quality of the steel on this knife is unreal, it can open cans like they are butter. It is heavy enough to chop wood. The sheath is high quality as well. Probably one of the best survival/fighting/hunting knives ever made in terms of construction, design and materials.

I purchased this knife on SOG's website thinking this would be the best possible price I could get but I was wrong. SOG actually sells this same knife on Amazon for $40 cheaper. I contacted SOG to get the difference back. SOG has not responded back to me. This has just felt like a bad purchase.

The knife it self seems great so far. Especially if you like a heavier knife. I use and abuse my knives when i carry them for work and this one handles it well. Where it falls short is the sheathe to me. The small sharpening stone it comes with seems cheap and very rough so nothing to put a fine edge on it. Made it bulkier to carry everyday so ended up cutting it off which slimmed it up alot. The snap for the retaining strap is plastic. Snagged the sheathe getting out of a truck and it snapped it so it was buy a different sheathe or learn to do minor repairs on leatherwork. For the price i would expect metal rivets and snaps. Something that can take hard use. But so far i like the knife and the design makes it fairly easy to choke up on it for small tasks. Wouldnt want to whittle with it but its can do some pretty decent finese work with the fine tip on it.

I have had this knife for a few months and it has held up remarkably well. It is sharp, functional, and overall a beautiful knife. A little on the expensive side, but the knife is of very good quality and feels solid in your hand. My only critiques would be the sheath that comes with it is not as high quality as the blade. And the finger grooves are a bit too small.

The good, it's sharp and pointy. The bad, the stacked leather has gaps in several spots, the finger grooves are designed to fit a child, the handle to guard fitment is off and the snaps are plastic. I expected excellent fit, finish and quality at this price, I am not impressed.

I bought this knife after seeing an original "5th Special Forces knife" that a friend brought back from Vietnam. This is as close to the original as there is. Very high quality at a good price. Comes with a black leather sheath and whetstone just like the original.

The knife itself is a thing of beauty. I love it to pieces, however, the sheath that it came with is of poor design and it scuffed my beautiful blade because there is a plastic rivet inside the sheath that I was unaware of until it was too late. Sheath went straight into the trash can. Now my favorite knife has an ugly scuff mark.
