Worth the price. Lasts long.
Great for run and gun shooting. Never had to charge.
I bought this 2 pack because the price was right (89.50 each), and because they are long lasting and reliable. The ones I've had since 2004 finally began to lose their charge after an hour or so, so it was a no-brainer to buy two more. 10 years of battery usage...excellent batteries.
I recently purchase 8 LED Video flood lights. Through my research to purchase some portable lights, I discovered that most if not all of the battery operated LED flood lights require SONY batteries. I already owned two NP-f950 batteries (when used my Sony Pd 150). I experimented the 950's when I purchased my 1st two video lights. Each flood light has 300 LED Lights. These lights also have a battery life indicator. I used the 950 batteries on a video shoot of a school talent show. There was NO Intermission and there were not any breaks in the "action". Unlike weddings, interviews &/or short assignments, my lights were on "FULL POWER" the entire talent show. The lights remained at full power for exactly 2hrs and 18min before the battery died. Because of the way the lights were made, there wasn't any dimming, fading of power or color "shifting". They just were on; then the battery died and they were off. FORTUNATELY FOR ME!!!!! the talent show was only 2hrs 5min. The lights died as I was packing up my equipment. That is the reason I chose the NP-f970 batteries over the 960/950 batteries. If I could get 2hrs 18min on "FULL" Power CONTINUOUSLY out of the 950, I can only gues that I will be able to get 21/2 -3hrs out of the 970. Yes these batteries are STUPID EXPENSIVE especially when you concider that you can get a "knock off/after market" battery for approx. $19-$29. You have to ask yourself one question. How important is my assignment to me and my lively hood. The sony battery has a chip that the "newer" Sony camcorders recognize that allows the newer camcorders to display the battery life on the camcorder view finder. I own/use Canon camcorders now but "IF" I were to use, rent or borrow a Sony camcorder I would already have the right batteries. I chose to buy 8 Sony NP-f970 batteries because I am going to use 4 Led lights. If one is good enough per battery then 2 (each) will ensure that I do not panic and have to be concerned about running out of battery power. The lights that I purchased DO NOT have a power plug option. It is battery life or nothing. Some lights I looked at had an optional "AA Battery Adaptor" that you could use in an emergency but ultimately I chose the lights that has 300 LED Lights, barn doors, light stand mountable,IR Remote and came with color gels, the option of dimming from full power to almost no light and 2 of them gives me the option of going from 3200 to 5400 kelvin (warn to Cool light) with the push a button. 8 batteries would have taken me out of my budget so I purchased eight used 970 batteries for a fraction of the cost new. Yes, It Still Cost More Per Battery (even used) BUT Unlike a cable bill, I only had to "cry"once. I will have these batteries for YEARS TO COME. Do yourself a favor and buy a dual battery charger if you plan on getting more than 3 or 4 batteries. These things litteraly take 10+ hours to charge (each) if they are fully depleted. That means 3-4 days to charge 4 batteries (assuming that you are watching the charger and switch the battery as soon as it is fully charged). That means while you are sleeping you are killing/wasting time and the second battery is not being charged. Why is this important????!!!!!!! because if you have a two three day shoot and you have to use your lights (batteries) the next day, you WILL NOT HAVE TIME TO CHARGE YOUR BATTERIES 100%. Plus Most people I know charge their Sony batteries through the camera. That means that not only are you stuck without batteries you will be down one or more cameras (unless you have the "fortunate pleasure" of being able to plug your camcorder into a wall socket and not have to move your camera around on a shoot. Anyway, if you are looking to buy 970 series batteries, buy them used. I was fortunate to find these when I did. I spent +- $35 more per battery but now that I have them, I am done. I don't have to think about battery life and I know that I have purchased the best that my budget can afford. If it "looks like a toyota, drives like a toyota, last like a toyota, get the gas mileage of a toyota" then BUY A TOYOTA. All of the other batteries say "For Sony". Let at the description/wording. It states for sony / replacement for sony np-f-970. If they are trying to be "SONY" BUY SONY...... ther must be something to the name if everyone is trying to "Be Like Mike".
I tried knock offs and all were poor performing. It's not worth the hassles of going second rate. Dig deeper, buy the OEM battery from a reliable dealer (beware of very convincingly appears but, out and out counterfeits) and life will be easier in the long run.
I'm well pleased with the purchase of these two batteries. The charge indicator shows 1277 minutes at Full Charge. That's 87 minutes more than any other battery I've used. After six hours use with the 3 inch view screen open, I still had over 80% capacity left. If the meter is accurate, I could get 5 weddings per charge. They charge at about the same rate as I'm used to with the variety of batteries I've used up in these 3 cameras over the last 11 years and holds a charge well between uses. They fit my cameras well too. Thanks Adorama for another Great product.
Only use these batteries in all my Sony Cameras because they will last all day. Love em
Perfect back up battery for over 8 hours of shooting time.
I use the battery for concerts, graduations, weddings, etc. It's nice because I don't have to change batteries before the event is over & end up missing something, as it's long lasting.
