About the Sony PMW-F5

Sony is pleased to introduce the PMW-F5 based PMWF5DLCD and the PMWFDEL "DOC KITS" promotional package models. The PMW-F5 "Doc Kits" are being offered from October 15, 2013 through December 25, 2013 and will qualify for the 24 Month 0/0 program.

These two special "DOC Kits" were created to address the needs of the Documentary community. The kits will provide the vehicle to take a documentary producer from their existing platform and move them to a Super 35mm sensor camera. These packages will allow Documentarians to employ the on-board 10-Bit HDCAM SR File flavors and the XAVC HD format as well as provide an upgrade path to 4K RAW.

The PMW-F5 Version 2.0 software adds many new capabilities. The PMW-F5 now features 120P XAVC HD 4:2:2. With the optional AXS-R5 recorder, 120, 180 and 240 fps 2K RAW are now available. The PMW-F5 can also record 2K RAW and HD XAVC simultaneously. There are a great number of single and dual recording options available on this camera.

These packages take "Lens Freedom" to a new level. Three lens adapters are included; the Optitek CPL-i EF lens adapter, Sony's FZ to PL mount adapter and the new Sony LA-FZB1 FZ to B4 lens adapter. The LA-FZB1 will allow the use of B4 mount 2/3 inch lenses on the PMW-F5 camera.

For audio support, the kit includes the Sony ECM-680S Shotgun microphone with a matching Rycote "InVision" Microphone Shock Mount. To properly hear all the nuances the ECM-680S microphone can deliver, Sony is also including a set of MDR-7520 premium headphones.

Both packages are "out of the box" shooting solutions. The packages provide a production ready solution at a great package price.

Descriptions of the Doc Kits:
The PMWF5DLCD Kit features the PMW-F5 with the DVF-L350 3.5 inch LCD viewfinder. The second Kit, the PMWF5DEL features the DVF-EL100 OLED viewfinder. Both Kits are packaged with a range of high quality and flexible accessories.

To enable the use of EF mount lenses with the F5 camcorder, Sony has included the "Optitek" FZ to EF lens adapter with both kits.

Sony's latest power management system is included. Both kits contain one each of the "new for F5/F55" BCL-90 AC Adapter/Fast Battery Charger and the one BP-FL75 "Olivine" (Lithium Ion Phosphate) matching battery.

Sony has included one SBS32G1A 32GB SxS Media card with each Kit. This card allows recording of either the 8-Bit MPEG 50, 10-Bit XAVC or 10-Bit SR File in the camera. The SxS card has a fast transfer speed and has been designed to be a highly reliable media for production use. For USB 3 workflow connectivity, the SBACUS20 USB3 SxS card reader is also included.

Both Kits are protected with the new LCF55CZ Hard Case. It has compartments designed to perfectly fit the PMW-F5 camera and accessories.

Both Kits include Sony's VCT-FSA5 shoulder adapter for run and gun/docu applications. When combined with a 35mm lens and Sony's BP-FL75 battery system, the mount creates a highly mobile, yet compact, well balanced system for handheld shooting.

The "Doc Kits" have been designed to help Documentary shooters take advantage of the rich PMW-F5 ecosystem. The virtues of the 4K imager the PMW-F5 camera system are many, enabling the use of high quality production tools available today as well as those planned for the future.

The Sony PMW-F5 camera is designed to accept a wide range of lenses. These packages include a Sony supplied PL adapter, an Optitek FZ to EF lens mount adapter and the new LA- FZB1 FZ to B4 lens mount. This allows the PMW-F5 camera to utilize a tremendous range of lenses. The adapters will allow interchangeable use of 35mm lenses from ZEISS, Arri, Cooke and many others. The LA-FZB1 will allow the use of many 2/3 inch B4 lenses. Other adapters such as Nikon and Leica are also available for the FZ mount camera system.

The PMW-F5 can utilize the AXS-R5 Recorder (sold separately) to record 4K or 2K 16-Bit RAW images. RAW images offer incredible image fidelity and post production possibilities in a non-destructive environment. With the optional AXS-R5 RAW recorder, high frame rates of up to 240 fps at 2K can be achieved while retaining the exceptional, 16-Bit image quality without windowing the image sensor, and at full resolution.

The Sony F5 is designed to make economic sense today, with the features you'll need to continue generating value for years to come. Instead of locking you into a single recording system, the camera opens the door to unprecedented versatility. Get on board!

RAW recording preserves the greatest latitude for color correction and other post processes. Sony's 16-bit recording captures more tonal values than the human eye can differentiate.
  • AXS-R5 records onto ASXM memory cards: The bolt-on AXS-R5 recorder records onto high-capacity AXSM memory cards, which are compatible with an affordable optional USB 3.0 reader, the AXS-CR1. Once on a PC, the RAW files can be screened using Sony's free RAW Viewer software.
  • Choice of HD/2K internal recording formats: The F5 CineAlta camera allows a choice of recording formats in addition to 16-bit RAW 2K/4K output onto the AXS-R5. The camera allows a choice of: 8-bit MPEG-2 HD422, 50Mbps; 10-bit XAVC 2K/HD 100Mbps; and SR Codec 10-bit MPEG4 SStP 220, 440 and 880Mbps.
