Yep it's great. Had this product for several years, great value and sound quality.

SEN doesn't work. There is no way to get to any website mentioned in the SONY manual. USB support is BAD. OSD is worse. Can't assign analog audio to HDMI (I am not sure if SONY engineers know that many compuers have Display port for video and regular analog audio - no OPT or COMPOSITE - they call it COAX for some god knows reason). Can't route the DISPLAY->HDMI for picture. POOR interface to arrive at this conclusion. There is NO WAY to like this product.

It’s Sony. What more needs to be said? You can’t go wrong with Sony. There are so many brands and options to choose from today so let me help you make things easier. Only look at Sony products and go from there.

After researching receiver for almost two months, this one appeared to be the best for the money. Overall it has many great features, such as 3D and 4K pass through, tons of ports and other extras like blutooth connection. The only downfall is not being able to pass through music from one source and video from another without needing to use an optical cable for the audio. The blutooth is clear and with a better/newer phone works for a great distance. I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend.

Nice easy to install receiver, a lot of sound, nice features like Airplay via WiFi. Only one claim - in stand-by mode to much "transistor" sound - will brind receiver to warranty to look at this.

I found the instruction booklet and the remote to be very unfriendly to the user (me). Still haven't been able to hook up to my local lan network. When I get to the screen for the WPA Key (Generally this is the password for the wi-fi secured network, it will only let me enter 5 characters. My password is 8 characters. It took me a while to figure out how to use the alpha numeric keys. A very cumbersome method. Not at all pleased with the convoluted system.

Great Receiver, I have it hooked up to a Sony Bravia TV so they "talk" to each other very well. I love that it hooks up to my home network. The only issue Ive had is the AirPlay only passes audio, but that could be me not figuring it out yet, or just a limitation of the device. All in all, great receiver!

I recently set this receiver up after my stock Onkyo one broke and this Sony one is definitely an upgrade...the built-in wifi is terrific, the Bluetooth and AirPlay work flawlessly for music and other audio (although be aware that you do need AppleTV to AirPlay pictures and video), and the set up is relatively simple and quick. The number of HDMI inputs is staggering and exactly what I was looking for. I love how I can personalize the names on the inputs that come through the box and that it can sense when one input has been activated and will automatically switch to that new input. The look is solid and sleek. The system automatically goes to standby when out of use for a prolonged period of time which prevents it from burning out (which is what my last receiver did I believe) and you can personalize which type of audio goes with each input. Great product!

Not being of the techie generation, this unit is much too complicated for me. Be warned, this isn't a 'plug and play' piece of equipment - it has to be programmed first. The logic is confusing, particularly with the speaker setup. The instructions, as with most electronics, are useless and don't explain anything. I finally just got it to where it works, and gave up on the fine tuning. I will never use, and never understand, all the features. Would rather just go back to my old receiver with buttons for speaker A, speaker B, etc. But that would be much too simple.

Features and connectivity are excellent for its price class. Airplay, HDMI connectivity, by pass facility, sound quality, ease of use, internet radio, microphone set up...

Had this for a few months now and really happy. Great connectivity and easy to set up. You may need to tweak certain settings after the set up process but just for personal preference. Great sound and amazing value for money. The only downside is the lack of Bluetooth but Airplay and DNLA should ensure most devices can connect. No hesitation in recommending this product.

I bought this amp thinking it had airplay and Bluetooth . It only has airplay.onscreen menu bit outdated and limited. It would have been nice if there was an app for the amp aswell Overall it's good amp .

A great product for the price though it has some problems. Set-up is easy, but only with a modern TV with HDMI connection. Should you still have an older CRT Sony TV for example one cannot access many of the features which require a TV screen display in order to set up certain functions such as WiFi connectivity, speaker set-up etc. Storing radio channels is fiddly and accessing them is also fraught with problems with the rather over complicated remote control. Had previously read about this having Bluetooth, though only the US model has this. In general terms a good product, but full potential may not be realised without connecting to the latest technology. Indeed while it is relatively future proof with 4K compatibility and 7.2 surround sound, it is less backward compatible

This piece of equipment comes with a 126 page manual. That should be the first clue. Operating this unit is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. If you want to change the balance on a simple two speaker set up, you will spend half an hour with the manual trying to figure out how. This equipment is not for anyone who wants to be able to turn on a unit and make minor adjustments. You have to be a glutton for punishment to wade through the poorly phrased English on 126 pages to do anything. Also, it is capable of blowing out your speakers entirely if you make a mistake with the settings. The tuner is nothing special, as well. I am so sorry I bought this thing. If you want something useable by you and your family forget this receiver. The only thing you will receive is grief.

I bought this unit for price/features and because I have had another sony receiver for 21 years. It still works great but wont connect to anything new! This receiver: 1) On screen user interface is terrible & looks like a nintendo from 1990. Really disappointing. It is 2014, correct? Firmware update didnt help 2) Remote is terrible - it has incredibly small keys, it is not back-lit, entering alpha-numeric information is incredibly difficult using this remote (your only option). Sound field setting is one of the main remote inputs - what for??? Should be channel selection. Really stupid 3) Occasionally the system wont pass through the TV signal while it is off. You have to hit the home key on the remote to get it to reset. Why? 4) Airplay wont pass through video, only audio. Works ok but comes with the nintendo display. No artwork 5) Bluetooth is a good feature. Works ok with the phone/ipod but you really have to turn up the volume. Wont display artwork 6) Wireless is a good feature 7) Lots of HDMI 8) Speaker wire connectors are hard to thread. More work than it should be! I hope I dont have to move the receiver anytime soon 9) Receiver display i'snt good either -but this was somewhat obvious from the product photos If I was to do it over, I would get something else. Maybe the 1040 or a more expensive Denon or Onkyo

First things first, I did a lot of research before purchasing this receiver. With all the rave reviews this product received it was a no brainer for me. Setup is easy and the sound quality is unmistakably the best I have heard for this price. I am using this as a 7.1 system, the system includes the following: 2 - JBL - Studio 530 - Front Right and Left 1 - JBL - Studio 520C - Center Speaker 2 - JBL - Studio 530 - Surrounds 2 - JBL Studio 210 - Back Left and Right 1 - Rythmik Audio - FV15HP This receiver includes: 7.2 channel Bluetooth Technology 6 - HDMI Inputs Auto Tuning WiFi Air Play AND MUCH MORE!! When I initially received this product my sound during normal television (through satellite) viewing would cut out at times, so needless to say it was a little frustrating. Sony updated the software recently and now it seems to have disappeared, to say now that I am totally enthusiastic about this receiver is an understatement. In short this is an excellent receiver for the price range and would recommend this to anyone who likes getting a lot for a little.

I needed to upgrade an old Sony 5.1 surround system and wanted to stay with Sony so after extensively checking user reviews I decided to purchase the receiver. It is 7.2 but for now I am using it as a 5.1 set up until I find the right additional speaker; not sure I will need 2 subwoofers though! After a few weeks the receiver would not play any sound from any of the inputs; which I am using all of the hdmi inputs. I was forced to "restore factory settings" several times while still encountering this same problem. This was the solution from Sony tech support, by the way. Basically, if you have the receiver in Standby for more than a few hours it will not "resync" with the inputs and play any sound/audio! The only way I can correct this problem when it happens is to have the receiver plugged directly into its own power strip and shut off and turn back on the power to the strip to get the inputs to work again. This is better than constantly pulling the plug out from the wall receptacle or "resetting to factory settings" constantly. Other than this major nuisance, which ALOT of people are experiencing as noted on online posts about this receiver all over the internet, the sound and features/options are excellent. I have contacted Sony numerous times and it seems that there is no permanent fix for this major problem. If u buy this and have the input problems all I can say is to buy a power strip that has an on/off switch and locate it in an easy to reach spot and just use that to reset/resync the inputs. Good luck!

The unit plays beautifully off of my Droid Razr phone Bluetooth. When it comes to playing music off my computer, I have now purchased 2 Bluetooth dongles and neither works without deleting the Bluetooth connection to the receiver and reinstalling the connection each time. When you reconnect, the Bluetooth connection is restablished and the computer can locate the receiver again. I have tried 20 times to connect to my WEP-enabled WiFi and have been unable to do so. Upon entering the password and requesting connection, the receiver never connects to the Wifi. I cannot download firmware updates, etc. I am disappointed at the difficulty it seems to have with the connections I desire. Bob

CONS: Unit makes a loud buzzing noise whenever in standby mode. When unit is set up for HDMI pass through, it defaults to "Linear PCM 2 channel" mode and cannot be changed. PROS: Reasonably priced given its features. Set up was easy. Good sound and power. Have been a longtime loyal Sony customer but the quality doesn't seem to be there anymore. And their Customer Service simply doesn't respond to requests for help.

I recently upgrade from the 740 and i love the built in AirPlay,Wifi, and Bluetooth. I love the ease of setup and the look of the receiver. I have to agree with CNET and say that this receiver is the best bang for the buck with all the options for the price. The only reason i didn't get it 5 starts was because i wish it had a GUI and a few component legacy inputs.

The sound output is fantastic. TV sound is greatly enhanced, as is the sound from my CDS, and Internet radio. Easy to set up too. Great buy for the price!

I'm no expert. I just find it does almost everything I want and is really easy to configure. The only bummer is that it still needs a preamp for my vinyl. I still have a lot from the 60s - 90s and I love to pull them out from time to time so...was a bummer I had to go buy another device. I don't get your "Is this product currently offered for presale?" question, however you have it set as required.

Bought this receiver after my Onkyo receiver actually spit out fire while watching a movie. I loved the sound of the Onkyo but this sony sounds even better and i hope it last much longer. I had the onkyo for 3 years and had it sent out for repair twice before it finally bit the dust. The sony is awesome, the interface is very plain but i can live with that with all the stuff thats packed into this thing. Im telling you its one of the best buys i ever made. Dont know about how long it will last but so far so good.

I replaced a 12 yr old Onkyo Recever that cost 2 & 1/2 times more new. The Sony 840 is a fantastic Recever with many wonderful features, sound quality is excellent with great sound separation & many selections of types of sound. I also see that Sony enriches the picture quality of the TV. I highly recommend a Sony Recever for excellent quality of sound & features.

With it purchased a Sony RM-VLZ620 remote to allow me to control my Vizio TV, DirectTV Receiver, Sony vintage VCR, and Sony BD, while connected to home network. Works flawlessly over my BOSE & JBL speakers in a 5.1 configuration. Highly recommend.
