If you care about sound quality this is for you. It is not a smart phone style media player. If you want to play "Angry Birds" go elsewhere.

As I always said Sony (for me) is a good brand name, but this time I can't say its price is reasonable anymore, because it costs QUITE HIGH. What I don't like from Sony concerning this model or Series is the title does not scroll. In my 2 older models also from Sony, the title does scroll (for example a song such as: I left my heart in San Francisco. It shows only: I left my heart in...). It is very annoying not to be able to see the whole title, or the singer's name or orchestra etc... In older models they do have this feature, which scrolls from right to left to show you the whole line of the title or the name of the singer. Why Sony omits this feature? Besides, this "annoyed" feature (which I have to take out 2 stars, otherwise I would give Sony a perfect 5 stars) all other features are very good. Its sound quality is perfect with good treble and lots of bass, Apple is far behind with its sound quality. Wi-Fi is a good plus, but I don't really care. Its noise cancellation is also a big plus. A must if you travel alot (which I do, on long flights to Europe). It will filter out the engine noise, leaving you with the pure sound of music so you can enjoy at its max! Finally, its OLED display is only good when you watch under shade or interior, but outdoor you see nothing. It washes out completely. A big minus. To disappoint us more, Sony sells this product at a very high price, and this product just release last year only to discontinue this year.

I have owned and used this unit for 3 months. First, this product has now become obsolete. Sony no longer sells it on their website. Two reasons. First, it was excessively overpriced compared to its limited features and capacity. Second, IT WAS EXCESSIVELY PRICED! I purchased the player strictly for MP3 sound quality. It sounded much better than any iPod. But you had to use their equalizer and bass boost to achieve decent sound. Had NOTHING to do with any audio chip or any kind of miniature built in amplifier. Just a simple software program. Did the sound blow me away? Heck no. If YOU paid $400, you would immediately realize how over priced it was after a few uses. I love the touchscreen. I easily tap primary functions of MP3 and FM stereo with the iPod style icons on the home screen. The FM stations come in great! I hook this thing up to rechargeable X-Mini MAX II Capsule Speakers. They play all day long. The Slacker Stations are okay, but you only get a choice of 3 different genre's to listen. Videos (HD) play awesome. The LED colors are vivid and gorgeous. Avoid the internet surfing. It is truly horrible, slow, errors and sucks up a ton of battery life. Your battery will drain in an hour on wireless LAN. Make sure it is turned OFF. It stays on in the background. You can NOT use this machine if it is charging. Serious. It has ZERO accessories for screen protection or carrying case. The protector offered for $20 is a hideous ugly semi transparent rubbery covering. It looks terrible on the black mp3 player. Waste of money. Overall, do NOT buy this (they obsoleted it anyway). Sony got too many things wrong with this model and the ripoff pricing for features. Buy one of their 4 lower level NWZ models for $60-$100. They are not touchscreens, but they have the same software engine to play good sound. I have the NWZ-S545BLK $100 unit as well. Go the cheaper route.

I have used an iPod, Cowon and this Sony X series. The Cowon and Sony have far better sound quality than any iPod I have owned (Gen 1 iPod, gen 3 iPod, iPod shuffle, iPod Touch 32gb). The quality in sound is similar to the Cowon S9 but the feature set in the Sony beats it. Definitely would recommend the sony and a nice pair of headphones (I like my Denon 2000) and you are set for hearing great music.

All Sony MP3 are the best in sound quality. I already own Sony NWZ S545 (16gig), since I travel alot I need noise cancelling to filter out the airplane's engine noise. I have to carry with me the Sony Noise Cancelling MDR-NC22, which is the best combination, but it is to bulky and inconvenient to carry around. That is why I have to buy this one with its noise cancelling integrated into it. Like I said, sound quality is awksome, the BEST. Ipod is the worse product in sound quality. If you love music with good bass and treble, forget Ipod, get this one. Trust me, you will not regret for doing it. Its Wifi feature is also a big plus, but I don't really care. I give only 4 stars because of its price. It is way toooooooooo expensive: almost $400 for this 32 gig is way too much. Do you, Sony knows this? You can't beat Apple Ipod if you set your price way too much like this. Your product is perfect, but your price is not perfect AT ALL.

If you are complaining about price with this you do not understand the value. Everything has apps these days. You are paying for sound quality from an MP3 player not apps on an mp3 player. This MP3 players is the best I have owned and have owned several ipods and a zune. Would not go back.

The sound in this mp3 is best of all the mp3 , i have a zune and ipod, none of them get even close, the only cons is the price is way over price at $400.00, you can get the zune 32 at walmart for $198.00, battery live is about the same , and it does have more staff like the internet and all that.
