While the grip works well, the the space for the trigger is too small. I kept it as a travel spare. If you have medium or smaller hands, and a light weight camera, you'll be okay.

I've used pistol grips on two cannon DSLR cameras for the past 7 yrs and love them. Ordered this pistol grip hoping for the same satisfying results. Didn't happen. Returned first order due to cheap feeling grip and non-position holding ball. Replacement order wasn't any better - position "drift" is a given with this product and very frustrating.

For my purposes (Micro four/thirds street shooter and concert photographer) on a monopod this makes for a super stealthy set-up. How can you lose?

This pistol grip ballhead is used with my Sony A57 and 28 75 lenses and so far it has worked very good. Holds position very well and is easy to use. Like the quick release feature and is an excellent accessory for the money. Very pleased with the purchase.

The Sunpak Pistol Grip Ball Head is a very solid camera mount. I was especially pleased with its ease of use: Squeeze and hold the trigger to position the camera; release the trigger and the camera locks rigidly in position. It will securely hold my Pentax K-5 with a heavy Sigma 120-400mm lens. This is a very good ballhead at an attractive price. Highly recommended.

This is the first pistol grip I have owned. I mounted it on an old tripod and it's like it gave it new life. So simple to use, just press the trigger and move it anywhere you want.

This works as intended, the one issue i find is attaching and removeing the plate is rather difficult. also the craftsmanship appear rathre poor and im not sure how long it will last. For the price i paid [$] I'm happy with the purchase.

"I have been a published professional photographer since 1972. Took a hiatus for 7 years because of sickness. I am now hopefully better and I am updating to digital. This has to be one of THE most "MUST HAVES" in your photo equipment. I photograph artwork at times, so therefore I use a tripod with the Sunpak Pistol Grip Ball Head. It makes my life easier. It is extremely sturdy and very good quality as I would expect from Sunpak. It has a good weight to it and it is easy to operate. If there was a rating page I would give it all 10 out of 10 stars. I used the Sunpak to do the attached photo. Because of the muliti debth of the artwork, I have to be able to position the camera just so and do time lapsed photography for her. That is the way the artist can get the colors she wants!"

It was a good product right up until the locking lever broke only a couple of weeks after I bought it.

Simplifies camera aiming and control while using a tripod. Pistol grip/control is ideal and the price is a huge plus. Sturdy construction. Don't hesitate.

I bought this head as a replacement head for another pistol grip. The price was one of the reasons for purchasing. It is a very good head for me. I have a Rebel T3I with battery grip, Canon 430ex II and I am normally using the 24-105mm f4 l series lens which is quite heavy. Without the flash bracket the setup weighs about 5lbs. I do not have any issue with slippage once I set the head. The only time I have a problem is when I have the flash bracket attached and I am in portrait mode trying to shoot in a downward position. Overall this is a good product.

My favorite (old) aluminum tripod had a broken head and it was always the clumsy part of the tripod anyway. I bought the Sunpak Pistol Grip and I like it a lot. It is a little top heavy on this light tripod, but is easy to use. Pull in the trigger, set it and let it go, the camera is locked.....simple. I found the camera quick release pad (included) to easily hold and lock tight with my digital SLR. I had another cheap head with a similar setup and it didn't lock the camera properly. The Sunpak unit locks tight and is easy to release.

Not a ball head for bigger DSLR's. Will not hold 6 lbs. It would be great for smaller point & shoot or camcorders. Don't get me wrong, it's a well built ball head. It's just got limits and it's less than the stated 6 lbs. Sunpak makes a compact model like this unit and it works great (holds close to 15 lbs.) I would recommend this product, but just for smaller equipment. Watch your weight(camera wise).

I've had a basic ball mount for quite awhile and although that one is much lighter, this is much handier and easier to use. The panning release feature will come in handy for shooting video I think. The bubble level on the top of the handle is nice too.

Use this a lot outdoors with great results. I didn't think that it would be as well made and easy to use, considering the low price.

I purchased this for use with a monopod, along side of a SunPak tripod that I have as well. My major issue is the quick release base on the pistol grip is larger then the quick release on the tripod. So, I have to keep 2 sets of quick release bases, depending upon if I'm going to use the tripod or the monopod. I like how it supports my 200x500 zoom and Canon T1i. It was very stable, locked into position and didn't move until I was ready for it to move. The ball movement was smooth and quick to release/grab. It has really made my monopod much easier to use!

Surprisingly high quality, looks and feels more expensive than it is. Solidly built and heavy, locks the camera firmly at every position including vertical. One-hand operation. However, because of its height, it increases the camera's distance from the tripod and might be likely to shake, especially with a heavy camera on a flimsy or lightweight tripod. Overall, it's far better quality than I expected.

I use it on a tripod and I use it in my hand. Handy for setting up shots that require a tripod and then quickly changing to a hand held shot. In fact it helps steady my grip.

Crude, rough manufacturing

This is a minor annoyance. The quick release platform and platform lock lever dimensions interfere with each other a little bit. This makes platform removal and placement very difficult. Platform requires serious wriggling to get past the lever. Maybe it'll get easier if the parts get worn down after several remove/replace cycles.

I bought this after using a Slik AF 2100 pistol grip for several years. The Sunpak is not as tall as the Slik, lighter and the height of the handle you squeeze is not tall enough to cover your hand width. It is strong enough for a SLR and 70-300 lens to remain steady and a lot cheaper than the Slik AF2100. I would recommend it if you have small to medium hands.

Great Value
By Alleyman
This is a great value. I shot a wedding with it this weekend. It worked great. I know other companies make similar products for considerably more. This product does exactly what I expect. The only changes I would make would be to the quick release. Those type of plates are difficult to mount. I'd prefer that ones that slide into place. I knew this when I bought it. Seems to be very stable and easy to use. The clamp is almost perfect. The only times it slips is when I have a long lens that is ...
