Most lights come with a 5/8 ball stud female mount, and light stands come with 5/8 studs. On occasion though you may use a light that has a 3/8 female mount. What to do? Buy this 3/8 stud. It screws onto the 1/4 bolt at the top of the stand mount, allowing you to attach that smaller mount. When you need it, you need it. The fact that they screw onto the light stands and other clamps and rigging that use a 5/8 stud gives you a lot of flexibility when the situation requires it. I also use these with inexpensive crossbars for small backdrop stands, as the crossbars have 3/8 mounting holes.

This product is the perfect compliment to the Flashpoint Softbox kits, as the kits cannot be mounted on a light stand without one of these. [...]

These are great for older flash heads with 3/8" couplings. I can use my normal light stands and don't need any special stuff. They just screw on in two seconds and they're ready to go!
