Smith-Victor Universal Stand to Shoe Adapter with Angle Adjustment

This light stand adaptor does not work on my Smith-Victor S3 light stand, as shipped ( my S3 has a 3/8" top.) Even though this item is listed as a "Universal" adapter, the thumb screw is too short to work on a 3/8" light stand, to truly be called "universal". I would have given 5 stars, but until I can get this part fixed, I only gave 4-stars. I'll have to contact Adorama to see if they can help get the proper thumb screw, or I may have to contact Smith-Victor if Adorama can't help I need to get a longer thumb screw to make this work on my S3 light stand.

This product is exactly as advertised. The construction is sold and this product is so simple it cannot fail. That said is doesn't do much. Mounts a flash in horizontal or vertical position and anything in-between. I don't know the carry capacity but I bet it would hold 5 or 6 pounds steady where it is set. Not illustrated but mine mount came with a set screw for the shoe mount. see pix. A very nice feature since the shoe is open on both ends.

I purchased this to use with my LED lights. And for remote strobe use. So far it has worked very well for my needs. It adjusts quickly with no effort. And it sturdy with no movement. Highly recommended!

I purchased this because I wanted to use my flash heads off camera. The mistake I made was in not noticing that this will not hold my umbrella. Having said that, this unit is great for holding JUST the flash head. You can set it up in just about any angle. I only give this item a 4 because one of my shoes fits too snugly on the holder. I have to force it on... So, if all you want to hold is the flash head, this product is for you. If you want to add the umbrella, you need to look for a different model.

The unit is not well made, the hot shoe adaptor having a very tight fit with my Nikon Speedlight. That said, the unit does, with overdue effort, finally mount a Speedlight to a standard stud atop a lightstand.
