Strong mothball odor
Although the tripod seems to be of excellent quality, providing a great deal of flexibility and stability, the very strong mothball odor emanating from the twist lock grips renders the item useless to me. Because customer service could not guarantee that a replacement would not have the odor, I'll be purchasing a tripod from a different manufacturer.

awesome tripod for the money!
I read about this tripod for many months then made the purchase a few weeks ago. I knew Smith-Victor only from their lighting etc. I had no idea that the CF-300 tripod would be so great. There ball heads are very strong. yet to try it with a longer telephoto, but I'll comment later about that. I'm very happy. [...]
