To say I am disappointed with this is an admission of my own cost-cutting short cut. I needed an extra boom arm for a project and wanted a quick fix. I should have know better and just spent the money for a quality product. This boom arm has a couple of serious flaws, which make it more or less useless - at least to me. First the clamp/bracket which attaches the boom to the stand (I'm using an Avenger C Stand 25) is plastic and doesn't tighten sufficiently to prevent the boom from flexing. A real headache to have to readjust every couple of minutes. Second, the clamps holding the telescoping boom at any particular length don't hold the boom from twisting under the weight of the monolight and beauty dish. Again causing continual readjustment throughout the photo session. My opinion; just poor construction with poor materials. BTW: the photo Adorama is using to list this product doesn't match the product itself. It might just be an old stock photo from the manufacturer - but it sure isn't what was delivered. I still need an additional boom, and this time - lesson learned - I'll spend the extra dollars for a quality product.

this is a solid boom that I use to hold 320M light. Make sure to have at least a 10lb sandbag on your light stand for balance. Great product for the price.

I needed a boom arm for my home studio and did not want to spend a lot of money. Saw this one, read the reviews and decided I give it a try. Glad I did! Best bang for the buck. It is heavy duty. The attached weight is a definite plus. Attaching it to my light stand was a little tricky but no problem. I've attached a 300 WS light w/metal barn doors and still had a solid setup. Even extended all the way It still was sturdy. Key is attaching to at least a medium weight light stand, w/legs extended all the way and of course good balance. For heavier light set ups use a heavy light stand and add weights as needed. Bottom line it exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend this to others. You won't go wrong...try it!

This boom is great for a hair or rim light and not much more. Because it is light, it's easy to move around and reposition. Do not over load it, it is just not designed for it.

I am very happy with this purchase. I was on the fence on whether or not to get the cheaper option also available at Adorama however I'm happy to say that i made the right choice. I use this on an Adorama air-cushion heavy duty light stand to hold my Alien Bee with beauty dish and the whole set-up is extremely sturdy. I use a couple of sand-bags on the base too just to really lock it down. The reach and adjustability of the arm is perfect and I have not come close to it's limits yet. I give this an A+.

It is a strong arm. It took me a time figuring how to connect it to the light stand. Now, I have it adjusted it is easy to connect. Two things I would purchase, a heavier counter weight, and a light stand sandbag to secure the stand The counter weight that comes on it is not heavy enough to counter the weight of a studio light with softbox. At full extension using a speedlight with umbrella the attached weight may be okay; still I add extra weight. This is arm has been a pleasure to use and has served me well.

I purchased this boom to hold a hairlight. It is very much heavy duty and gives me confidence that it will never drop a light on anyone. I secured it to a heavy duty stand having a wide footprint and I don't have to weight it. Excellent choice.

The Smith-Victor Heavy Duty Boom Arm of anodized aluminum construction is a 2 section lightweight boom arm with a 5 lb counterweight that holds light heads weighing up to 4 lb. Ideally used as a hair light. The Arm extends from 42 to 80 in, and comes with a 5/8" brass top mount.
