CATHY P : Would this would be sufficient to hold a XXl westcott rapid box and a Explor light or an alien bee? Under stats there is a 4 # weight limit and then to the side it states 25#? Just want to protect my clients. I have a Cstand and plenty of sand bags : ) Thank youTOBIAS T : It's a great boom. As long as you have a strong light stand or C stand you're goodRENATA C : I use this SV arm with my Adorama Rovelight and a 22" metal beauty dish with no issues. I just make sure everything that needs to be tightened is tightened well.MIKE R : I use this boom with an Alien Bee and 8" x 32" softbox and grid. I imagine the Westcott XXl is heavier. It does well with my set up although there is a bit of flex and I don't use it fully extended. It seems well made an solid, but I prefer to err on the side of safety. Definitely don't need the complications of it falling during a session.MARK S : This device as far as i can see is underrated for weight I use alien bees with both the light cone that comes with the flash and 30 inch umbrellas. If you have c stands with sand bags I would not worry about them weight wise. What I do is extend the counter balance out to its farthest position and make sure your set up is balanced. Greg A : Will this work with the Einstein E640 used as a beauty dish or will I need something more sturdy?WILLIAM S : yes, it will work fineSTEVE C : This boom is both economical and strong I have yet to find a load that will strip the mount grip teeth and allow it to sag. I have tipped over a tripod or two but not due to the boom failing to hold the load. I recommend it as a great product for the money.PHILLIP L : This is a capable little boom for umbrellas up to 36", smaller soft boxes of equivalent size/weight. With larger modifiers I will use additional counter weight up to 10lbs but it does start to bend a bit...not recommended. I use the same heads as you so it's your call, I don't have the beauty dish to compare weight. Hope this helps.MICHAEL H : We put a Alien with a 10" softbox on it. Out of fine. But you want to put the whole rig on a pretty heavy duty light stand.
KENNETH S : is there a grip head included?MELISSA H : Yes there is, comes with everything except the light.MELISSA D : There is a plastic grip head included.PETER M : Just a nipple style tip that the head mounts to... it is only the arm(horizontal part in the pic), not an arm/stand combo as the pic might have you believe. Not quite what I was hoping for, but I'm making it workPAUL B : Ken, There is No head included. If you have a decent sized flash head attached, you'll probably want to supplement with sand bags or some other counter weight. Overall, I'm very happy with it. I'm not a pro shooter, but it does the job nicely for me.

Caveat Emptor - You Get What You Pay For

To say I am disappointed with this is an admission of my own cost-cutting short cut. I needed an extra boom arm for a project and wanted a quick fix. I should have know better and just spent the money for a quality product. This boom arm has a couple of serious flaws, which make it more or less useless - at least to me. First the clamp/bracket which attaches the boom to the stand (I'm using an Avenger C Stand 25) is plastic and doesn't tighten sufficiently to prevent the boom from flexing. A real headache to have to readjust every couple of minutes. Second, the clamps holding the telescoping boom at any particular length don't hold the boom from twisting under the weight of the monolight and beauty dish. Again causing continual readjustment throughout the photo session. My opinion; just poor construction with poor materials. BTW: the photo Adorama is using to list this product doesn't match the product itself. It might just be an old stock photo from the manufacturer - but it sure isn't what was delivered. I still need an additional boom, and this time - lesson learned - I'll spend the extra dollars for a quality product.

Solid Boom

this is a solid boom that I use to hold 320M light. Make sure to have at least a 10lb sandbag on your light stand for balance. Great product for the price.

This Is A Great Boom Arm!

I needed a boom arm for my home studio and did not want to spend a lot of money. Saw this one, read the reviews and decided I give it a try. Glad I did! Best bang for the buck. It is heavy duty. The attached weight is a definite plus. Attaching it to my light stand was a little tricky but no problem. I've attached a 300 WS light w/metal barn doors and still had a solid setup. Even extended all the way It still was sturdy. Key is attaching to at least a medium weight light stand, w/legs extended all the way and of course good balance. For heavier light set ups use a heavy light stand and add weights as needed. Bottom line it exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend this to others. You won't go wrong...try it!

Solid light weight performer

This boom is great for a hair or rim light and not much more. Because it is light, it's easy to move around and reposition. Do not over load it, it is just not designed for it.

Solid Purchase

I am very happy with this purchase. I was on the fence on whether or not to get the cheaper option also available at Adorama however I'm happy to say that i made the right choice. I use this on an Adorama air-cushion heavy duty light stand to hold my Alien Bee with beauty dish and the whole set-up is extremely sturdy. I use a couple of sand-bags on the base too just to really lock it down. The reach and adjustability of the arm is perfect and I have not come close to it's limits yet. I give this an A+.

Well made product

It is a strong arm. It took me a time figuring how to connect it to the light stand. Now, I have it adjusted it is easy to connect. Two things I would purchase, a heavier counter weight, and a light stand sandbag to secure the stand The counter weight that comes on it is not heavy enough to counter the weight of a studio light with softbox. At full extension using a speedlight with umbrella the attached weight may be okay; still I add extra weight. This is arm has been a pleasure to use and has served me well.

Very secure for hairlight

I purchased this boom to hold a hairlight. It is very much heavy duty and gives me confidence that it will never drop a light on anyone. I secured it to a heavy duty stand having a wide footprint and I don't have to weight it. Excellent choice.
