About Tiffen 77 Circular Polarizer

Polarizer filters give you several key creative features.

They evenly increase color saturation of all colors (except black and white), creating deep, rich scenics.

They add contrast for dramatic skies and ariel shots.

They eliminate the whitish glare from highly reflected surfaces like glass and water.

Polarizers are two part lenses that rotate, allowing you to select the degree of additional saturation, contrast and glare reduction desired.

Tiffen polarizers are offered in standard and warm versions. Warm polarizers add Tiffen's exclusive 812 warming filter, giving portraits and scenics a warm and muted feel while retaining rich coloration.

Polarizes come in two types:

Circular -- for all types of cameras: required for beam splitting metering systems commonly found in auto-focus SLR's and in most curretn TTL Slr's.

Linear -- for older metering systems.

Tiffen polarizers are available in the follow variations:

Standard Linear.

Standard Circular.

Warm Circular -- polarizer plus 812 warming filter.

Wide Angle Circular -- a thin filter designed to avoid vignetting at the edges from larger wide angle lenses.

Note! Tiffen wide-angle filters have low profile rings to prevent vignetting which can occur when using standard filters on ultra wide angle lenses. They do not have a front thread, and can not accept standard snap on lens cap.

Most Liked Positive Review

Nice addition to the photo toolbox.

Works nicely kind of like polarized sunglasses would work for a person. It is a filter I do like putting on my lens regularly,it does help in bright light conditions. One thing I did not like about the filter is that it seems to get stuck to the lens easily and I would find myself rotating the outer ring of the filter to free it from the lens. It also states on the packaging that it is warranted for 10 yrs that is a plus.

Do Your Research First

I purchased the Nikon 10-24mm Wide Angle Lens and was offered this polarizing filter at a discount by my salesman. I later learned that polarizing filters are not recommended for wide angle lenses because how they effect the color the sky. Do a search of the internet to see the effect for yourself. I returned the polarizer.

Works good. Threads are a little sloppy on my Tamron 70 - 200, but once installed there are no problems.

GREAT BUY

By

Great CPL for eliminating reflections and bringing out the blue in sky and water. There were several reviews citing difficulty in removing the filter. However, a very very thin coat of Vaseline on the lens thread eliminates the problem, just do it before you screw it on. No downside to this filter that I can find.

Great product

Bought this to brighten up my Canon 6D photos. The filter is not light and little difficult to screw on to the lens. But once it sits there, that's it. Would surely recommend...

I should have put this filter way earlier ! I realize the difference in the images before and after. It's not making miracles, but certainly makes the difference.

Nice for the price

For the price it can't be beat. I would be very careful mounting though, there have been a couple times where it REALLY did not want to come back off. The coating (if it has any) is pretty weak so you have to watch for flare. Other than that, the filter works like it should, the rotation isn't too tight, and image quality doesn't appear to suffer. Happy with my purchase. Used with Canon 24-105mm and 10-22mm.

Awesome Effects

By

from Milwaukee, Wi  -  Photo Enthusiast

I purchased this filter for my 10-22mm wide angle Canon Lens. I did not notice any vignetting when shot at 10mm wide. The only cons I could find with the filter is that its threads are very fine and you need to be careful when screwing it onto the end of the lens, because I do believe you could accidentally cross thread the filter. You also need to be mindful when shooting with this filter because it does change the color of things such as the sky. You probably wont be able to walk around all day without adjusting the effect of the filter. I usually adjust it so the color of the sky is uniform and one part is not any bluer than the other. The last con would be because it is a ultra-wide angle filter it does not have threads for a lens cap on the front of itself, thus you will not be able to attach a lens cap to the end of the lens without taking off the filter. That is the catch, having a filter that creates no vignetting versus a non-slim filter which would create vignetting on a wide-angle lens. Apart from those three cons I love this filter although it is somewhat expensive it is worth every penny. It enhances the color of the sky and does a excellent job of reducing flare coming off of water and glass. If you are looking to shoot during the day, around buildings and maybe even at a place like a beach this filter will make your pictures look even better. All you have to do is remember to adjust the effect of the filter by twisting the end of it. I do use this filter with a lens hood as well. I would recommend this filter not only because of its great picture quality and construction but because it is a Tiffen filter and you know you are buying a quality product when you buy Tiffen filters.
