These filters absorb Ultra Violet (UV) light. Film is more sensitive to Ultra Violet light than our eyes. This often shows up as a haze or a bluish cast, especially when shot from high altitudes and from long distances, particularly over water.
UV filters also help protect your lens from dust, moisture, fingerprints, scratches and damage from cleaning.
Since they absorb no normal light and have no effect on color or contrast, they can be kept on your lens at all times.
Tiffen Ultra Violet filters are available in a variety of absorbtion levels and sizes.
UV filter ---------- Standard UV. Most popular protection filter.
UV MC -------------- Multi coated for extra flare protection.
UV Warm ------------ Combines UV with Tiffen's '812' warming filter.
Haze 1 ------------- Absorbs 75% of UV light.
Haze 2 --------------Absorbs 100% of UV light.
Haze 15--------------Absorbs 81% of UV light.
Haze 16--------------Absorbs 86.5% of UV light
Haze 17 ------------ Absorbs almost all UV light.
UV Wide Angle Thin - UV filter for use with wide angle lenses.
Note! Tiffen wide-angle filters have low profile rings to prevent vignetting which can occur when using standard filters on ultra wide angle lenses. They do not have a front thread, and can not accept standard snap on lens caps.

thin design for wide angle lens
excellent optics and uv protection but this, and all wide angle, thin glass, filters, have no front threads to hold the lens cap on. you must get a push on cap to protect the filter. for this 77mm filter, i got an 80mm od push on cap from b+w at adorama.

This filter does not allow you to use a lens cap on the filter. Which in my case was the whole point, to buy a filter use as an protective filter for my 17-40 4L lens. Now I need to buy another filter

Purchased with Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 zoom lens for no additional price. Sigma cap holds on. Filter does not interfere with the wide lens. The price is right.
General use and protection of lens.
I always have a UV filter on all my lenses even large ones like this 77mm. It not only cuts down on UV light it also protects the lens from accedental drops. If it lands on the face the UV filter will crack but save the lens. That is invaluable to me with the cost differnce between the filter and lense.
Proud to use a made in the USA product. Quality and the looks are always my choice..a very thin filter to protect my L lenses.
Does the job I purchased it for. Protects the lens
Nice extra just for using Adorama. Got this filter when I bought a lens. Great place to do business! This is a simple protective filter to prevent your lens from being scratched.
I use this on my Canon 24-105 f4L lens, fits perfectly, no vignette at the widest. Super thin compared to other so called thin filters from other manufacturer. Easy to clean and very well made.
It is a reasonably priced UV filter that does the job nicely. I took some shots with it on and with it off and couldn't see any difference. Solid construction. I don't see any negatives and have used Tiffen in the past with no problems. I've got a Zeiss lens and it wears this filter always.
Use on the front of a Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 as protection for the front element.
It's an inexpensive filter that is well suited for wide-angle lenses. Its main role is to protect the lens without image degradation, and it does it well.
