Questions & Answers

ILIYA K : It says "tripod collar YES" in the specs. Anyone can clarify this? Is it included in the box?HANS H : it is not that long a lens and if you snap it into the body then the body can be placed on a tripod, a substantial one is recommended that holds the weight. I use it on a tripod all the time.HANS H : there is no tripod collar included in the box but the lens is fantastic better than the equivalent NIKKOR lens and way cheaper.MICHAEL M : I did not receive one when I received my lens, so unless this is something that has been recently added I don't think it does.Crown L : No Tripod collar included or in my opinion necessary.HARRY F : no tripod collarMARK C : No tripod collar included with the 15-30. Wouldn't need one anyway--it's a fairly short lens.SHARON J : NO..it's not that long to need a tripod ring.
JIM J : I see some that say USA warranty. Is yours a USA warranty or International.?GRITHER, R : USA.RICHARD K : Yes it is a USA warranty and a Great lens.MICHAEL M : USA, I would avoid any international models as they will not usually be supported if something goes wrong.ANDREW R : Grey market or "Direct Import" items are clearly marked as such on our website. The item in this listing is standard US market equipment. NOT grey market. What's in the box: Front Lens Cap Rear Lens Cap Flower Shaped Hood 6 Year USA Warranty
flora M : The Tamron 15-30 for Nikon F lens , is it compatible for the Nikon D500 camera?GARY C : The D500 is a cropped sensor camera. That would be why all of your other lenses have a DX in the model number (indicates cropped sensor). I shoot full frame and don't know if Tamron sells this lens for a cropped sensor camera. A "full frame" lens won't work on your camera.Nuno F : You can certainly use this lens on a Nikon D500. If anything, you won't be exploring the full potential of the lens. Nikon D500 is a DX camera (cropped sensor), while this is a FX lens (full sensor). But any FX lens will work on a DX camera.DALE W : I would think that is a question best looked into at the Tamron site. It does work great on a D750.ROBERT A. M : The short answer is yes. However, the effective focal length on a crop sensor camera such as the D500 will be 27.5 - 45 mm.BRUCE G : This is a great lens, but probably not the one you want for your D500. The problem is that the D500 has a DX size sensor, but this lens is designed for a full-frame (FX) sensor. The result is that your effective focal length will increase to increase to 22.5 to 45. Have a look at the Tamron's wide angle lens for DX sensors, the SP AF 10-24. While it doesn't have the constant f 2.8 aperture, it weighs much less than the FX version and costs about half as much. It has also received great reviews. I enjoyed it very much until I moved along to my D810. Have fun!David S : Excellent lens but I believe the Nikon D500 has a DX sensor which will not give you the full wide angle view you might want. This lens is advertise to work with the full sensor cameras. If you are looking for a super wide for a DX camera try looking at the Tokina f2.8 11-16mm. It will give you a similar view for a DX sensor camera as the Tamron on a FX camera. The biggest difference between the two lenses is the Tokina does not incorporate VR.RAFAL D : It is fully compatible. However it will not be quite wide angle any more. With crop factor it'll be more equivalent to 24-46mm so more of a standard lens.TAKU S : Yes, it is. Any F lens fit D mount camera.HANS H : not really, the D500 is a cropped sensor camera, and although the lens will fit the mount it will perform differently than on a full frame camera it was designed for. You will lose significant light gathering as the sensor in the D500 is smallerMICHAEL D : It will not give full width since the D500 is not full frame, but it should fit the mount.

Overall great lens, but not perfect

Overall a great lens. It is quite large and heavy so make sure you have a sturdy tripod. I like that there is a built in lens hood to help protect the bulbous glass. Typically i put a filter on all my lenses to prevent the glass from getting damage, but you cannot do that on this one. Ive notice on a few images that when i am al the way at 15mm there is a bit of lighter vignette on the corners. Ive also found that depening on the position of my flash, i can get some flare that i dont get on other lenses.

customer service is the most ever

the lease and buying experience of my Mac book pro has been the worst ever but it was only 6.200 dollars so maybe it wasn't enough.

I love this hefty lens. It has great low light performance

Simply put it is the ONLY super wide angle you can get with Image Stabilization (Vibration Compensation), at f2.8. Although I highly recommend, I must note one interesting very minor flaw. If you shoot a bunch of images in rapid succession, the 4 or 5 image in sequence might be very blurry. You will need to turn the VC feature off, if you do a 5 + AEB HDR shot sequence (you should you should be on a tripod anyway) or rapid shooting (Minus 1 star). Still I love this hefty lens. It has great low light performance, hardly any distortion even at 15mm.

Tack Sharp

I've read several reports about this lens and even talked to a couple friends who have it also. What I've read and what I've heard and see helped me make my choice. Now for a review: First off this thing is beefy. It does have some weight to it. Than again just look at how much glass is in there. Focus is very sharp and fast. Also if's very quiet. The zoom ring is a tad on the stiff side. I call that good so you don't accidentally shift you zoom while shooting. Focus ring is also a tad bit stiff, but not as stiff as the zoom ring. However most people will use Auto focusing. I use auto focusing during the day, but I do a lot of Astrophotography as to where everything is done in manual mode. Over all I am very very happy with this lens. and recommend it to anyone.

Excellent lens with many uses. I use this for astrophotography, walking around, and indoor at home. Excellent image quality and build. Combination of max aperture, stabilization, and focal length is tough to beat. And a great price on top of that.

Beats out the Nikon 14-24 2.8

Owned Nikon only Ienses for years. Rented the new Tamrons. Long story short. I shoot professionally full time. Sold all my Nikon lenses. Bought the new Tamron line. Hands down amazingly amazing. Buy it.

I compared this to the Canon 16-35 Mark II and it literally beat the pants off that lens. In every case, at every focal length and aperature, this was a sharper lens...I highly recommend it.

Less the great color rendition

Still getting used to the lens....have noticed the color rendition is not as good as the Canon 16-35 f4 or the Canon 24-70 f2.8 ii. I got this lens for astro shooting but have not had the chance to use it for the intended purpose. This lens comes highly regarded by many reviewers but for landscape the above Canon lenses are better IMO. If this lenses works out for astro shooting as reported by many reviews on the Net then it will be worth more stars.

Great Lens

I'm a Canon user and tend to avoid other lenses. I now have two Tamron lenses, though, and have to admit that they are equivalent to the quality of my many Canon lenses. I chose this one because it has image stabilization and the range of focal lengths I wanted. I'm happy with it.

Super Lens/Astrophotography

This lens was purchased for use on a Nikon 810 during a nighttime photoshoot at Mount Saint Helens. This lens performed fantastically in low light condition and was a pleasure to shoot with. It is heavy, a beast actually compared to some of the other lenses people were using (i.e. cannon 16-35). Having said that, the picture quality is fantastic when coupled with the 810.

One of my favorite lenses!

Awesome lens that gives beautiful sharp images! Can be used for more artistic shots at 15mm due to the fish eye effect it produces, then able to be used for portraits at 24-30mm, so it's a very versitle lens.

Amazing lens...with a major flaw

I've had this for about a year now and use it for about 90% of everything I shoot. All the things you have read are true. Yes it's really sharp, heavy and requires a huge filter system ( I use wonderpana) Ok so the flaw... I not sure why this happens but the front element will randomly fog up. This has happened on a few occasions in environments of different temperatures. I've talked to other photographers and they have experienced the same thing. With that being said as much as I love this lens I find it to be unreliable.

Fantastic Lens

Great lens, quick to focus, sharp and great build quality. I also love that Tamron stands behind their products with their 6 year warranty. I have used their warranty in the past and it was easy and they healed up to their word.

Fantastic Ultra Wide Angle Lens

By Charles D.

I was in the market for a wide angle lens for real estate shoots, architecture and astrophotography.I thought I wanted a Canon lens and have several L lenses from Canon. The Canon 16-35mm f/4L was out of the question due to my desire to use the lens for astrophotography. This left me with two Canon choices: The EF 14mm f/2.8L prime and the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L. Neither were good choices due to coma. The Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L also has coma problems so isn't a good choice for astrophotography....

Excellent Clarity, color and contrast

By Keith W.

I compared this to the Canon 16-35 Mark II and it literally beat the pants off that lens. In every case, at every focal length and aperature, this was a sharper lens...I highly recommend it.

Tamron SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di USD
A Wideangle zoom lens for full-frame DSLR cameras with a fast F/2.8 aperture and VC (Vibration Compensation)

Superb image quality and performance
With an optical construction of 18 elements in 13 groups, inclusive of XGM (expanded Glass Molded Aspherical) element placed at the front group and several LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements in the system, aberrations such as geometrical distortion and lateral color are efficiently compensated for enabling the zoom lens to deliver outstanding image quality throughout the entire range from corner to corner.

Prominent competence of VC when shooting night scenes and under low light conditions
Recognizing the needs for image stabilization capability on a wideangle lens voiced by a number of photographers, especially for a full-frame, fast F/2.8 ultra-wide-angle zoom lens category, VC is tuned for providing discernible competence throughout the entire zoom range. The feature enhances image depicting capabilities for shooting night scenes and under low light conditions.

Benefit of the eBAND and the improved BBAR coatings
Tamron's acclaimed BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating is further refined to render uniformity in transmissivity across the critical bandwidths. Coupled with the eBAND coating, ghosting and flare typically observed on ultra-wideangle lenses are efficiently eliminated, resulting in crisper and crystal-clear images

Fluorine coating on the front element, Tamron's first
Due to the large diameter and the prominent convex profile of the front element,it is not practical to deploy a protective filter. For the first time, a fluorine coating is applied to the front element, which repels water or any typeof dirt, while making it easier to remove such smudge when contaminated.

Fascinating background "bokeh" with the fast maximum aperture of F/2.8
Natural and smooth blur on the subject background enhances depictive capabilities of wide-angle photography when a subject is located in the close distance. The 9-blade diaphragm construction retains a near-circular aperture opening even when stopped down by two steps from its full open position and delivers ideal bokeh effects.

Easy-to-use autofocus
Speed of autofocus and control accuracy are further improved. USD[4] (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) delivers tack-sharp images due to the high torque and fast response speed with least amount of lag time, yet with extremely low acoustic noise. Equipped with a full-time manual focus mechanism, fine focus adjustments are enabled without exiting from the AF mode.

Comes with "SILKYPIX Developer Studio for Tamron", RAW image processing software customized for Tamron SP lenses
The SILKYPIX Developer Studio software provides an added feature to generate high-quality images from RAW data, while performing adjustments to reflect a personal style and a taste of the photographer. These include white balance, color, sharpness, and the tonal curves recorded by digital cameras.

The SILKYPIX Developer Studio for Tamron provides a range of functions, in addition to the basic adjustment capabilities, such as correcting aberrations (lateral color, distortion, relative illumination fall-off) referring to the optical design data. Optimal use with Tamron's SP series lenses - renowned for their high-depiction capabilities - delivers images that meet photographers' most exacting demands. Compatible with Nikon F mount.

Tamron 15-30mm Features

  • XGM (eXpanded Glass Molded Aspherical) element and LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements deployed in the front group ensures outstanding image depicting performance.
  • Proprietary eBAND coating coupled with improved BBAR coating efficiently reduces ghosting and flare inherent to wideangle focal lengths to an absolute minimum.
  • Ultrasonic Silent Motor (USD)
  • Prominent competence of VC when shooting night scenes and under low light conditions
