This is a high quality lens that works great with my Nikon D750. I'm new to Macro, reading a lot and trying to learn all about it. My first shots are already amazing, buttery in the background, sharp on the subject. I recommend it without any hesitation. Adorama did a great job getting it to me quickly and safely. The 750 "likes" it a lot.

Fantastic lens. I have it on Nikon and on Panasonic GH 5 with Metabones Speed Booster XL. Both work flawlessly. Close-up shots look very sharp. F2.8 works great in low light. Speed Booster helps getting a bit wider shot with close-ups due to the form factor. Autofocus on Nikon works fast and picture looks great too.

This is a great lens, especially for the price. You don't need VR for macro/micro work or portrait work, both of which are areas where this lens shines. Functionally, all the controls are intuitive, smooth and precise. Its robustly built and based on years of excellent pro quality lenses from Tokina. My only complaints are 1. to retract the moving front portion of the lens after auto-focusing, you have to unlock the focus clutch and retract it manually, and 2. you lose a stop (goes to 4.2) when focusing as close as possible. Ive had the Nikon 105 AF-S VR and don't recall this being the case, but I find image quality to be the same with this lens at 1/3 of the price. As an aside, I bought this lens after looking at the new version with the Firin look, and found them to be identical other than the price. Just one more reason to buy this lens. I bought from Adorama and I had mine in 3 days with normal (free) shipping!

I only used the lens once for Macro shots, just to see how well it worked. I will let the pics I post speak for the Quality of the shots. Have not used the lens for anything else other than Macro yet. I hear that the lens is good for portrait work as well. I used the lens on my Nikon D750, it was a fun lens to work with. Can't really find a negative thing to say about it, for now. The lens seems to be well made for the price. I am keeping the lens. Maybe Adorama will allow another review from me in the future, when I have used it more. So far so good.

Real nice lens. Easy ylto focus my manually or automatically, sharp images, and the price is right. There are some detailed reviews on YouTube which convinced me to go with it over the much more expensive Nikon 105mm macro and I have not been disappointed.

Great lens. Like others have said, the autofocus is slow, however for its intended use it’s just fine. It’s not like you’re shooting wildlife or sports with a 100mm macro lens. Very sharp, great color saturation. This lens should be twice the price. I might buy another.

This Tokina lens is tack sharp and very fast. I have made many memorable macro shots with it, as well as some of the most beautiful portraits I have ever taken. This lens is a definite winner.

It is sharp and easy to use. Macro is a dream at 1-1 .I did my homework . It is the best 100 f 2.8 macro. A great lens for the price.

Great lens. All my research leads to this being the best bang for your buck. From macro to portraits this is a good all around option.

Unfortunatelly , the Canon Version doesn't have an Aperture Ring which the Nikon version has. So you can set the aperture only electronically. What a pitty.

Before deciding to buy this macro lens, I have, of course, as any sane buyer would, hit the interwebs and made a decent amount of research. Somehow, I got the general sense that this is worth it, and yes, indeed, it proved to be so. Go buy this lens.

This lens is sharp and easy to use. I can't believe it is this good for this price. As others have mentioned, the only drawback is the focusing motor is slow. That is not a problem for me.

I couldn't be more pleased with Tokina's 100mm f2.8 macro lens. I've never been a fan of third-party lenses, but this lens changed my mind. It's well built for the price, and tack sharp. If you don't want to break the bank for a macro lens, give this one a try!

The price is exceptional for a lens which can be used as a macro and portrait lens which provides great bokeh. It is very sharp with low distortion and vignetting... However, there is no built-in image stabilization which I wish it had. Even though it's made of plastic; it feels solid. Once you master using it; you won't be disappointed...

It has no Vibration Reduction , I'm fine with that. I am amazed with this lens.

This Tokina 100mm f/2.8D PRO Macro for Nikon is SO sharp people are blown away when I show them images then allow them to 'pixel peep' by zooming all the way in. A very well constructed lens with a 'typical' D Series lens feel due to metal construction. Some people seem not to like the MF/AF clutch switch which I simply can't understand. It's a great arrangement and very fast to switch between AF and MF. IMO You really owe it to yourself to give this lens out for a Macro shooting session to get the full appreciation of what this lens is capable of. Enjoy and Happy Shooting!

Actually 4-1/2 stars. Nice lens. Build is solid. Sharpness and bokah looks very good. Focus is a little bit slower than Nikon lenses, but not enough to be a problem. 100 mm with a crop sensor camera is a little on the long side for portraits, but I need more experience with the lens to make a definitive assessment on this.

I use this lens mainly for photo-restoration and macro work; occasionally for portraits. It's a quality lens at a much lower price that comparable lenses made by the Big Boys. It has no internal focussing motor so if you need AF you'll need to use it with a camera with an internal motor

I think it is a pretty good lens for the money. I use it on my D850 and it achieves passable results.

Best 100mm Macro Value for Nikon
By BRETT C.
I will start out by saying that macro photography is not my primary focus. I enjoy it as a diversion to making images of wildlife. As a result I did not want to spend big dollars on a 100mm macro, however I also have a low tolerance for soft lenses. I would have spent the extra on the Nikon 105mm VR if I thought there was any additional value. In the end, after having researched/purchased/used the Tokina, it's excellent and I think it is the best value in this lens category for Nikon SLRs...

This lens is fantastic! I have used the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 VR micro and the tokina really gives it a run for its money. The results are virtually indistinguishable. The build is very, very sturdy and the feel is smooth and solid. I never really write reviews but I felt compelled to express my impression of this lens!

Tokina One Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism for fast easy switching between manual and Auto focus.
55mm non-rotating filter thread for use with macro ring flashes and special effects filters.
