Questions & Answers

Shopper : Hi, I would like to know if on a Canon 5 D Mark III this lens is still a 11-16 mm? Or I will get just 15 mm because of the full frame body? Thank youMichael J : I had a friend who bought a 6D and tried the lens and wasn't happy with its results so he sold it (to me ironically) to use on my crop sensor Canon. I've not had a single issue with it to date and have taken some of the best pics I think I've ever taken with this lens.CHRISTOPHER B : You'll have to push in all the way with this lens on a full frame body. I have used it on a 5D Mk II and Mk III and have verified it's limited compatibility. You will experience vignetting when pushed in all the way. This lens isn't made for full frame bodies but if you can accept the issues you can make it work.DONAVAN S : On a canon mark 3 you will get vignette on 11-14mmDONAVAN S : On a canon mark 3 you will get vignette on 11-14mmRAYMOND R : This is a DX lens and will not give you the full 11mm on a full frame body.GARY W : Buy the 15mm. The tokino is for a crop frame cameraTELL AVIV P : not even 15mm. Only 16mm. at 15mm it already vignettes!MARTINO M : I use this lens with much success on a Canon 7D. Pictures are good. Video is great. Since the 5D is full sensor, you would truly have 11-16mm. My experience on the 7D is that it is more like 16-23mm.JOHN L : i think so but I don't actually have the 5D Mark III camera. How do you like the camera? I am thinking about investing in it.
Shopper : main difference between this lens and the Pro Dx II?SASSAN S : Sorry if I see your question after 6 years only ! :) I m pretty sure you found your remedy but by now there are many other options and competitors for this lens, with the major improvements being, "so called" better lens coating to prevent flare n internal reflections but short answer this lens is a gem . I value mine (original old version) that way & never felt a need to replace or upgrade, while always having it in my bag. It's that good, after these many years.MICHAEL G : I have the Tokina 11-16 and it is a great inexpensive lens. I don't know The Pro DX but it better be a good one to best the Tokina. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike
Shopper : Do all of you use this lens hand-held or on a Tripod?Michael J : Because how fast it is - I've almost entirely taken shots with it handheld.RON R : I use it hand-held most of the time.ART S : Hand HeldPEDRO B : I use the lens hand held only. I only use a tripod with longer lenses. This lens is really nice!JOE C : I tested it hand-held, but returned it for no other reason than I reconsidered and bought a Canon lens.EDISON J : I've always used this on a tripod. Stability is always good when taking panoramic shots or vertical shots. Hope this answer helps.KEVIN B : Handheld is fine just keep an eye on your shutter speed.SUSAN C : I use it both ways depending on what I am shooting. Great lens, makes landscapes really interesting and different.STEVEN C : Handheld. It's a fast 2.8 lens, and it's light so there is no particular reason to use it on a tripod (unlike say a 600 f/5.6 lens, for example!).

Great Wide Angle Lens

I loved this lens, but when I upgraded to a full frame I had to sell it. This lens did some amazing astro shots, and as a architecture and landscapes lens it worked fantastic.

Great lens for price

This lens works very well at an affordable price. The fixed aperture is great for a shallow depth of field, even at a wider angle. It is a little heavy at 1.2 pounds, but is still small enough to travel with. My main complaint is that I can't use the manual focus ring in autofocus mode, I have to choose one or the other.

Great Lens - perfect for my Nikon D7200

Was looking out for a wide angle lens for my D7200. Great pictures with the lens, will be my go to lens for portraits.. Details are much appreciable, and works flawless with my Nikon D7200.

Amazing lens, great quality and value!

I got this lens because the price dropped and I didn't have anything wider than the kit zoom lens for my Nikon D3400. I am even more excited than I expected, on my cropped sensor, the difference is very distinctive, the constant 2.8 aperture is great and also the lens is of very good overall quality (performance, image and build quality). I believe it's great value. Auto focus is very good and fast in my hobbyist experience, and much more silent than my Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX. One thing I must note is that it's by far the heaviest of my lenses. I can only compare it to the kit 75-300 lens, it's not that long and doesn't extend that much, but it's definitely larger in diameter and heavier, overall more bulky. Also, I would probably prefer a manual focus switch rather than the ring mechanism, but it still works perfectly fine, maybe I just need to get used to it. Great value for money, definitely recommended!

So far so great

Wasn't quite sure how the lens will turn out, but after a few sessions, its slowly becoming my favorite!! For wide landscape shots, the F-stop is a cherry on top

Perfect lens for real estate photography

Build quality is great for this price point and photos, at least on a cropped sensor, have minimal distortion.

Very good lens

I purchased this lens for astro photography and it has performed very well. I have enjoyed learning to frame photos to best use of the wide angle. I found I could have done as well with a fixed focus at 11mm. The 2.8 f stop is great for Milky Way shots. I was able to get a 180° sky show in only 5 exposures.

This lens is surprisingly fine

This lens is surprisingly fine.Sharp and as you stop down to about f8 to f11 edge sharpness and focus is very good, even excellent. The zoom range is not so great to create distortion at all focal lengths. I also really llike the depth of field scale and the manual or auto focus options. It has a lot of bang for the buck

Great for landscape photos

I'm an amateur photographer with minimal experience, testing the waters. I find this lens to be great for photography while hiking, although it is a bit heavy. It takes good photos but also tends to overexpose everything. Obviously there are ways to deal with that, so it's not a deal breaker. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Love It

I took this lens and a rented Nikon 10 to 24 mm to Sedona Arizona. Although the extra range of the Nikon was sometimes more convenient, it was not worth the extra cost. Image quality and build quality was comparable on both lenses. I am very happy with this lens and Adorama’s price made it too good to pass up. This is a great addition to my gear bag and I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a great white angle for landscape photography. Also, the 2.8 makes it great for indoor shoots with low lighting.

Perfect for home interiors and creative landscape

This lens turned out to be exactly what I needed to photograph interiors. It works perfectly with my aging but reliable Nikon D7000.The f2.8 aperture is fantastic when you need it. The build quality of this Tokina is superior to budget Nikon offerings.Best of all this lens is VERY sharp. So there is no compromise with image quality. It takes a while to get used to pulling the focus ring down and out for manual focus-and remembering to push it back Up for autofocus. But after using this lens for a couple weeks it's now second nature.Whatever APS camera platform you're using this lens is impressive and perfect on your budget. I truly wish I had bought this lens a year ago!

Looking forward to the photo ops.

Bought this lens for astrophotography and landscapes. I’ve only used it once so far at night but it should work well. Lets in more light than my other lenses.

Very nice

Very nice, built like a tank. I usually buy Nikon lenses but with all the good reviews for the Tokina and the $ compared to the Nikon lens I couldn't justify the extra $. It is very sharp at all zoom levels. The build quality is evident as soon as you pick it up. I'm glad I chose Tokina for this particular lens.

So far, liking lens

This lens is heavier than I’ll used to, but I can put up with that. So far, I’m liking it. I got it for night photography, which I have yet to try. The lens hood was hard to take off, there’s a trick. Go to YouTube to check out how.

Wide Lens for C100

Bought it for a wider option on my C100 and it seems to do the job. Very little distortion. The only thing I could ask for is FF comparability and IS, but the best part of this was the price, which wouldn’t happen with Thise features. Solid, inexpensive lens.

Tokina Blows Out Nikon!

By Big J.

I was a pure Nikon professional for 25 years. Systems used: F3, F5, D-200, D-300. In retirement I presently have the D-300 w/17-55 DX F2.8 and 70-200 DX F2.8 VR. Now looking for a super wide I was about to purchase a Nikkor 12-24 mm F4 DX. In fact I had ordered the lens on the web. The same day I saw the latest test results on the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 ATX Pro. I called my web dealer back to cancel the Nikon order and could find only one ATX Pro DX lens locally. After making calls around t...

Great Lens!

By Derek H.

Very useful ultra-wide on Digital. Makes a good companion to your 18-200mm VR, should be the only two lenses you need the majority of the time. I use it on my D80 and get great results. The zoom range is limited, but a step forward or back will usually get you the framing you want, and the f/2.8 aperature is great. Even at f/2.8 the depth of field seems very good, stopped down I'm sure it's fantastic (haven't really used it on a tripod yet). The lens is a bit heavy, but it seems very sol...

The new Tokina AT-x 116 PRO DX is an ultra-wide angle lens with a fast f/2.8 aperture for better photography in low-light situations. Many photojournalists consider having an f/2.8 aperture a must for any lens in their camera bag.

Based on the award-winning optical design of the AT-x 124 PRO DX (12-24mm f/4) lens, the new AT-x 116 PRO DX has a slightly shorter zoom range to maintain optical quality at wide apertures.

Tokina's exclusive One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the camera to focus manually. There is no need to change the AF-MF switch on Nikon cameras** and there is no second AF/MF switch on the lens for Canon, everything is accomplished by the focus ring.

Please Note
The lens is designed for Digital cameras with APS-C sized CMOS and CCD sensors, not designed for cameras with Full Frame sensors.
