About Tokina 11-16mm

The Tokina 11-16mm F/2.8 AT-X 116 PRO DX-II is an update to the widely popular and award winning AT-X 116 PRO DX, 11-16 F/2.8 lens.

The main update to this lens is in the Nikon mount, the AT-X 116 PRO DX-II has an internal silent focusing motor to allow the lens to AF on Nikon bodies that do not have an AF drive gear and motor.

There have also been some adjustments made to the coating for slightly improved optical performance.

This compact ultra wide-angle zoom has a bright constant F/2.8 aperture make viewing and auto focus possible in lower light situations but still maintaining a reasonable size and weight.

Two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements and two aspheric glass allow the proprietary optical design to achieve excellent contrast and sharpness as well as controlling chromatic aberration.

Tokina's exclusive One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the lens mount for manual focusing. The lens is also designed to stand up to the rigors of daily use by photographers in a wide variety of shooting conditions and environments.

Professional glass

I use this lens for shooting the Milky Way, landscapes, and to give a slightly different perspective. To say I am in love with this lens is an understatement. However, shooting with an ultra wide angle lens is different and takes a little learning. If you don't take the time to learn how to shoot this kind of lens you will be dissatisfied. I listed a "Con" to this lens. This lens has a ring you slide back to go to manual. Normally, when shooting at night, I will often use the auto focus and ...

However, shooting with an ultra wide angle lens is different and takes a little learning. If you don't take the time to learn how to shoot this kind of lens you will be dissatisfied. I listed a "Con" to this lens. This lens has a ring you slide back to go to manual. Normally, when shooting at night, I will often use the auto focus and then slide the switch to manual on my Nikon lenses and it all stays put. On this lens when sliding back the focus ring into manual there is often a slight shift of the focus ring to fit the gears in the lens.

The Lens didn't work on my D7000!

I live in Qatar which is so far from the US, i read alot about the lens before deciding to buy one. In my country no one is selling Tokina so i decided to order from adorama! Paid around 70$ international shipping, the lens delivered, mount it to my D7000!! The F is always Zero (F0). I tried many things nothing happened, contact adorama and sorry to tell they don't know anything, every person transfer the call to another person. At the end they said you should call Tokina, i called them they said they are familiar with the issue! And i should send the lens back, and i should pay the shipping !! Which is expensive here. Bad response from adorama + bad service and customer care from Tokina + super bad lens which even didn't work. In addition, since adorama seems to have a lack of customer care, i will order my next items from Other shops Regards.

Fun Lens at a Great Price

By

from Bath, Maine  -  Casual Photographer

I bought this lens originally so I could take photos of Real Estate that we own but found lots of other fun things to do with it. I can take photos that include a building and its setting that give a unique view. I love the ability to walk right up to something huge and take a photo of the whole thing! The lens is great in low light situations and if I add a twinkle filter, I can make the whole photo light up! The lens itself is solid with a metal mount. I use it on my Nikon D7100. All of the parts fit together solidly and the zoom is smooth as silk. Nice craftsmanship for the price. So far, it has been money well spent!

not sharp at all

By

from texas  -  Casual Photographer

i think the lens autofocus is has some problem. especially in low light. it seems picture always come out soft like it is not in perfect focus. i read a lot possitive review but was dissapointed. but on videos the auto focus seems to able to get sharp image. which is very odd to me.

What did I ever do without this?!?

By

from Cle Elum, W  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I purchased this lens for landscape and night photography. I really don't know what i did without it previously! Its smooth, seamless, and spot on in clarity! The ONLY issue i had with it (since I only have Canon lenses) is switching from AF to MF. Its actually easier then the Canon lenses! I know not every lens is perfect, but this one is as close as they get! Excellent performer!

A Winner for Sure

By

from Florida  -  Semi-pro Photographer

This lens is used on my Nikon D7000. I have read other reviews where the purchaser has indicated that the lens is not functional. To the contrary, the lens works perfectly with super fast focusing and is a definite plus to my collection of other lens. There are no drawbacks to the use and functional ability when used with my D7000. If the lens does not work with your D7000 obviously you have a defective Tokina lens. The lens seems very well built and does not give you that "plastic-feel" as other brands do. This lens is a real winner and you will enjoy every shot taken with it. Enjoy your new toy.

Really Great Lens

By

from Cincinnati, Ohio  -  Casual Photographer

I just received this lens and have been using it. I am about to take it on a beach vacation and get some great landscape pictures. It is well made and sturdy. I am just learning how to use this wide angle lens, but so far I have been having a lot of fun practicing taking photos.

Great Lens

By

from Ventura, CA  -  Photo Enthusiast

Used mainly for landscape this lens does as expected. Held properly very little distortion even at 11mm. Contrast and colors are great. Small amount of vignetting when using polarizer but that is to be expected. Motor a little noisy but not a major issue. Give 4.5 stars to this lens.

Love it

By

I think I am going to love this lens. It fits my Nikon D5100 and although I will have to learn to use it, the pictures I have taken so far show me that it was exactly what I was looking for

Very well made Japanese Lens.

By

from Arroyo Grande, Ca  -  Semi-pro Photographer

This is extremely well made and a bit heavy. But the quality of the pictures is extreme on my 5100. Owned a sigma 10-20 and this is better in my opinion. The 77mm filter tells you a lot. And the price for this glass is a true bargain for this kind of quality.

Great DX ultra wide zoom

By

from Gettysburg, Pa  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Coming from film I found the down side of DX to be wide angle. after reading reviews and looking at images I decided I wanted a constant 2.8 aperture and sharp images. the Tokina delivers that. A very sharp lens with minimal distortion. the zoom adds to the versatility. well built, it's big, won't fit in your pocket, but it balances nicely on my D2x. the fact that it takes 77mm filters makes it more useful than most of the others in this range. the hood locks in place, so no moving out of place or falling off if bumped like some. the lens cap fits securely and is easy to remove and place back on. another common failure with some brands. little things but makes using the lens more enjoyable. from just a hair under 14mm to 16mm it delivers great results on a FX D700 as well. That little added versatility makes a world of difference to me. I do like the shift from AF to MF using the focus ring, easier to do than trying to find the switch, button on other lenses.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Marv v  Hi in the reviews it is mentioned 2 times it might not work on a Nikon 7000. The autofocus could be not working properly. So do you think this is an issue?
Paul G  I had an issue with the autofocus, which would not work on my D7000. I contacted Tokina's representative in Belgium (I'm in France), sent it to them, and a week later, it came back, repaired. It has worked perfectly ever since.
FRANCIS M  is this compatible to nikon d600?
Lee F  Not really. It will mount and autofocus, but this is not a full frame lens (hence the APS-C in the name). You will not find a full frame wide angle wider than about 14mm for full frame unless it's a fisheye. Tokina does make a great wide angle for full frame though, and I believe it's only about $50 more than this one.
Tom D  Hi is this lens compatible with a D60?
ROSEMARY W  It is compatible but will not autofocus, which you probably wouldn't find to be a big deal due to the depth of field of this lens. If you do have to have AF, look at a Nikkor 12-24mm or Sigma 10-20mm HSM
