A Great Backpack -- You'll like it too!!

I've been very happy with this backpack. Plenty of room. So far, I have A Nikon D70s SLR, two lenses, a metz 45ct-1 flash, some filters, light meter, manuals, batteries, memory cards and if i'm traveling, there's plenty of room to pack card readers, cables, chargers and all the little odds and ends we all carry around. Someday I hope to add a 400mm f2.8 monster to my collection and I'll have the room when I do! I'm impressed with the quality and strength of costruction. The metal zippers on this pack are beefy and strong -- no wimpy plastic here. Some zippers also have fold-down covers -- they will do well keeping the rain out if that's ever necessary. Tamrac Recommends strapping in the tripod on the outside of the main flap. This makes it a little awkward to get into if the pack is lying flat. Luckily, they have attachment points built into the sides of the pack. I might move the tripod to the sides to make it easier to get into the main compartment. All in all, well worth the price.

Well made but TOO big for my purposes

Four stars because it really is very well made for what it is, an "Expedition" camera bag. This is a well made bag but it is so big that I have not actually used it yet. Ordered it online and the dimensions sounded good when you consider what it will hold. Got it to take on trips for wildlife photography and it definitely will hold all the long telephotos and multiple cameras but it is so bulky that I figured it would be awkward to take in and out of public transportation and small planes, land rovers, small boats and canoes we would encounter in the various places go. Definetly will not fit under your seat on a small plane, and I always carry on my camera bag. Has almost too much padding... this bag is more for backpacking expeditions. For most travel I use a photo backpack about half this size. Extremely well made though.

Great for the long hike or for the daily excursion. Protects my gear well. Allows me to carry multiple camera bodies and several lenses. A really great asset!!

The Expedition 8 is Tamrac's largest backpack for carrying the most extensive collection of photo equipment. Dual "wing" pockets with water-resistant zippers organize and provide quick access to important accessories without disturbing your other gear. These "wing" pockets also feature Tamrac's patented Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify available memory cards and batteries from ones that are used up. A tripod is cradled (centered and balanced) securely between these pockets with Tamrac's QuickClip tripod attachment system while the lower plastic-reinforced Tripod Foot Pocket holds two tripod legs secure.

A large front pocket with a water-resistant zipper holds a light jacket or extra gear. The main compartment is completely foam padded with numerous adjustable, foam-padded dividers to protect multiple pro-size digital or film SLRs, a full range of lenses, andflashes. A camera with a long zoom lens attached is suspended on two vertical, foam-padded dividers that are internally reinforced with rigid plastic. Restraint straps hold the lens firmly in place. Three Windowpane-Mesh pockets inside the front flap visibly organize filters, film and other accessories. A plastic, foam-padded platform in bottom provides shock protection while a LockDown rain flap protects the zipper from the elements.

The state-of-the-art harness system features Dual-Density Comfort Pads that provide maximum carrying comfort while Air Flow Channelshelp keep you cool and dry during extended use. The pack is also equipped with a BioCurve dual-pivoting waist belt to provide a wide range of adjustment. Cinch straps on the shoulder harness and waist belt, and an expandable sternum strap allow finer adjustments for maximum comfort. The harness also features "D" rings that accept Tamrac's optional backpack camera strap (Model N-11).

Strap Accessory System (S.A.S.) and Modular Accessory System (M.A.S.) attachment slots on the pack provide a convenient place tocarry Tamrac's optional M.A.S. and S.A.S. products (shown on right). Four SpiderTabs provide additional attachment points for expedition equipment or extra clothing.
