I ordered this pack with the impression that it would fit my gears. I was disappointed though because while the bag is big, it did not have enough room for my gears. it was cramped. I had a hard time fitting in my 5D mark lll with a battery grip and the attached 24 - 70 f/2.8. I also had a hard time fitting in an extra 85 mm f/1.2 lens. There was hardly any room for my 580 flash. this bag looks good but it just is not roomy enough.

Great bag. I have a Pentax K30 with long lens, three additional lenses, a flash and a K 10D body in it. My 15" MacBook Pro fits right in. I am sure it will be a great carry on for my travels. I have my other small attachments, filters etc.

My old backpack made my equipment feel like I was carrying around a sack of bricks over my shoulder. This backpack is very sturdy and carries weight very well. Very good materials and construction. It is a little bit pricy, but after taking it half way around the world, it was well worth it! I used to carry 2 backpacks... one for camera stuff and another for my computer. I had to cut a few items, but now I have condensed everything into this one backpack. The top compartment is very convenient for small things you need access to all the time, especially while the bag is sitting between your feet on a plane or bus. I'd absolutely recommend this packpack to anyone who travels with 3-5 lenses, a small amount of other equipment, and a laptop.

main camera slot if using a camera with a battery grip can be a little difficult to access camera. could use a couple more outside pockets... sling bag when this baby is loaded is just not possible.. if less than a full load// it is great

nearly every thing I own photographically needs to multi task. this bag does that well.. sling right or left and backpack. even though getting a full frame camera out of the side doors w/ a battery grip can take a little jiggle.....this is a cool bag !!!

I replaced my Tamrac Expedition bag with this one because of the multiple access/multiple configuration capabilities. It is not quite as well made as the expedition in terms of padding/material and could use one or two more dividers but with a little work I have all of my gear (DSLR,battery grip, four lenses plus flash and filters)securely stowed. There is still room in the upper compartment. I use it as a sling bag for shorter trips (with less gear) and as a backpack for extended trips to Europe, etc. I still keep my Lowe slingbag for quick outings. But the Evolution really is a do everything bag.

best backpack on market that fits my needs .
Tamrac's new Evolution Series backpacks provide an unprecedented level of versatility. With their unique harness system, the Evolution Series backpacks can be carried three ways - as a backpack or as a sling pack using a single strap worn over the right shoulder or the left shoulder. There are also three ways to access your equipment using Tamrac's Triple Access System
When worn as a backpack, the two foam-padded shoulder straps, waist belt, and chest strap distribute the weight. For quick access to equipment, slip off one shoulder strap, swing the pack around to the front, and open the side door to access a DSLR with a lens attached.
To get to additional equipment, swing the pack around to the opposite shoulder and open the side door on the other side of the pack. Inside both side doors are two convenient memory card pockets and a pocket to store lens caps while shooting.
lens caps while shooting. To convert the Evolution Series backpacks to sling packs, cross-connect a single shoulder strap, red to red for carrying on the right shoulder or blue to blue for carrying on the left shoulder. The other shoulder strap is easily tucked away.
When the packs are removed, all gear can be accessed through the door to the main compartment. The internal dividers are foam-padded and adjustable. A Windowpane-Mesh accessory pocket inside the front door is ideal for keeping small accessories visible and organized. The foam-padded top compartment provides storage for a light jacket, lunch or other photo accessories. A mesh pocket in the back keeps small accessories separate and secure, while a Windowpane-Mesh pocket on the inside door panel holds additional small items.
The Evolution Series packs feature Tamrac's QuickClip Tripod Attachment System with a Tripod Foot Pocket, allowing a compact tripod to be easily attached and carried. Each side has a zipper-closing pocket for accessories like a phone or iPod. The right pocket contains a removable rain cover, which can be slipped over the packs during extreme weather.
The 5788 Evolution 8 also holds most 15.6" screen laptops in a separate pocket that allows quick access without disturbing photo gear. Lash tabs on the bottoms provide an attachment point for tying on extra equipment.
