I want to use this for a big trip that I am going to take, but I am concerned that it will be a little heavy with the gear I want to take along. Yes the gear fits; the outcome will be interesting. I like the side access for the camera with the lens attached.

Great way to carry your gear. The side access is especially helpful. Easily "compartmentalized" to suit your specific needs. I carry my Pentax K7 and two flashes, four lenses, Cokin filters as well as my GoPro video cam. Plenty of room and easy to carry.

I was disappointed in the small space for personal items. Definitely not enough room for a good long day hike if you need layers, food and enough water. Unfortunately I also found the pack very uncomfortable. It needs some cross straps to help with weight distribution. I appreciate the side access to the camera compartment, but it was still awkward to access the gear. Not what I was hoping.

Just returned from a trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Everything worked great and was easily accessable.

I use this pack daily and it's great! The camera area of the bag is roomy enough to hold lots of camera equipment (extra lenses, extension tubes, camera, etc.). The only thing I don't like is the pack area of the bag - it would be great if it were a little larger.

Overall this is a great bag. It protects my gear while hiking, has enough room for everything I need for an extended car trip or a day's hiking. It needs to add quick release buckles on the shoulder straps though, so you can get the pack off to access your camera. Also, I put my tripod on the bottom useing the sewn on strap guides, but this is not the best solution. A better solution would be to offer mounting points for more straps on the back or up both sides. The pack is well made and I expect that it will be durable. Overall though, its an excellent, well thought out product. Add a few features and it will be perfect.

local photoshoots, when you don't need a lot of gear. Fast access to camera, without taking off the pack. Straps, need strap to tie the two together, makes it more comfortable on the shoulders.

I work in IT and carry a laptop for work. This backpack allows me to take along my camera along for when I see interesting things.

Just returned from a trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Everything worked great and was easily accessable.
The Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo/Laptop Backpack is the perfect carrying solution for the photographer who prefers the comfort of a backpack, but doesn't want to sacrifice the ability to quickly and easily access photo gear. To accomplish this, Tamrac developed an innovative Dual Access System that allows fast access through the side door when the pack is worn over one shoulder.
Like a traditional photo backpack, equipment can also be accessed through the front panel with the pack is removed. This versatile backpack holds and protects a DSLR with a grip and lens attached (including most 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lenses), 2-3 additional lenses and accessories. A separate, foam-padded laptop compartment holds most 17" screen laptops.
For weather protection, the side door is equipped with a water-resistant zipper while the front panel has a weather flap. Inside the side door, accessory pockets hold memory cards, lens caps and other accessories. In addition to the completely foam padded bottom compartment, the pack has a large top compartment perfect for personal items, such as a lunch or light jacket. An elasticized mesh side pocket provides convenient access to a water bottle.
The pack features a carrying handle and a comfortable, foam-padded backpack harness contoured to distribute the weight of the camera gear across the shoulders. Two lash tabs on the bottom allow a tripod to be carried (requires accessory straps, Model S-113, sold separately)
