I keep it in my camera kit so I can transfer photos to all those people who ask for them on the spot. All they need is a flash drive, etc. I only wish the case had flaps to cover the ports. CF especially is susceptible to pins bending. I sent an email to some photo friends who also bought the unit.

The batteries are mighty small for large transfers, which is what I think it's needed for. Camera card to USB could be multi gigs. What happens and what so you do if the transfer stops because of dead batteries? My principal use is, I feel, threatened by this. Why not a rechargable L-ion or NiMH? Have to carry packs of alkaline AAAs in the field? No word on whether a powered USB line would help.

I wanted an inexpensive device to transfer images from an xD card to a CF card. I have few Xd cards and many CF cards. It took twenty minutes to transfer 700MB. If I were traveling, I would spend a lot of time charging batteries just to keep it working.

I bought the Aleratec USB Copy Cruiser Plus USB Duplicator in plenty of time for my trip to New Zealand knowing that I will be taking a lot of shots and filling my flash cards pretty fast. This sounded like the perfect solution for avoiding having to lug a laptop and copying files each night from the flash cards to the Western Digital 120GB USB drive I also bought recently for the trip. Luckily I tested the Copy Cruiser yesterday (3 days before the start of my trip) and found that it appears not to have the juice to run the Passport drive. So it was off to [...] pick up a few more 2GB flash cards. I don't know what drives this product is rated for, but obviously not anything as big as I have. The unit is powered by 3 AAA batteries. I guess that's so the size could be kept down, but it needs more. And unfortunately it doesn't come with an option to plug it in to a wall socket. I'm disappointed.
