I have purchased abundant external Lacee drives since the mid 2000s. I have had a first class experience with them. I own at least 10 of them, from 1 gigabyte to 8 gigabytes in capacity. I only gave a rating number of 4 because I did have one fail after 12 years of use (not bad in terms of duration). My mistake was not to have purchased the recovery insurance they provide, but being a compulsive detailist I did not lose my data. I had redundant back-ups. I just bought 4 more of these drives, you may therefore safely assume that I trust the quality of what Lacie sells and happily recommend them. This time I did buy the recovery insurance which is very inexpensive.

Connected the LaCie Porsche Design 4TB USB 3.0 to my Wife's IMAC. 2 minutes done! The software is also very nice, which allows you to create RAID 0 or 1. You can also configure the device as a back drive. Very satisfied with the purchase.

I always buy LaCie drives and have found them reliable. The size is good and amazing deal for 4 Tb. The only reservation is it's not quiet while loading, but this isn't constant.

I'm a new MAC user converting from decades on a PC, and found this backup drive super easy to setup and use with the MAC. I recommend this based on my first initial experience. I partitioned the drive to save a backup of my PC files in the Windows format, then fully backed up the MAC with the files installed on the MAC in the MAC format. And it all happened lightening quick with USB 3.0!

I have 4 other LaCie 2 GB hard drives that I have been using for the past 5 years and have never had a hiccup in anyone of them. They are fast and reliable which is what you want from your hard drives.

The set up (for partitions) was easy to follow and get the drive ready for use. The USB 3.0 provides an excellent transfer speed, for both moving large folders and standard open/close of large files. It is a bit on the loud side compared to my other drives, but with the music playing in my office it is mostly not noticeable. Would buy again.

I bought this to back up my hard drive for my iMac, because Apple had a recall on the hard drive. This forced me to finally smarten up and learn how to back up my files, and I'm glad I did. I will set this up to use Time Machine, so I will never have to worry about backing up my files again, as it does it automatically. This hard drive was SO simple to set up. Highly recommended.
