Hook it up to the MacBook Pro, its ready to go and it backs up mu picture files quickly without problems. Firewire 800 is terrific, especially with 21 MB raw files. Appears to be quite sturdy and is well designed and good looking. I've had wonderful experiences with my other LaCie drives and expect the same with this one.

I have had this drive for over 2 years and it is excellent. I just bought another one for my son, who can be a little rough on his equipment. I think it is more dependable than the sleeker little passports and the like. Also it has firewire 400 and 800, unusual for a portable, and comes with all the cables.

Does not configure like previous ones did where one could use 100% of capacity on either a Mac or a PC (I think that was called a "FAT" format.)
