Vanguard Adaptor 46 Camera Backpack, Black

Purchased this camera bag in February 2019 prior to a 2 week trip to New Zealand. I based my purchase in part upon existing reviews, which seemed very positive overall. This bag, although still available through some vendors, has apparently been discontinued by the manufacturer. The Vanguard Adaptor 46 is obviously made with tougher grade material compared to other bags I have owned or observed. It easily withstood the rigors of my trip. All zippered compartments held up well and no fraying of the denier-type material developed. I also used the bag as a personal carry-on item on flights with American, Qantas & Emirates Airlines. I was able to fit the bag under seats before me in Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A321 & A380 aircraft. Although the economy seating clearance was pretty tight for all of these planes, I was able to pull the bag out as needed during flights on all planes (I used the bag for snacks, SD cards & my Nikon battery & USB chargers, a 400 page novel and a change of clothing, as well as my Nikon D90 with 55-200mm & 35mm lenses). Concerning cons, I was disappointed with the difficulty I had trying to get the included velcro partitions to come together in the way I wanted to pack my camera & lenses; I finally gave up when I discovered I could easily insert my Domke F2 ready-made partition system directly into the Vanguard's camera compartment. Other cons include a few design issues, e.g. there is no added storage pocket under the zippered top flap for the rather large upper compartment, which would be an ideal place for several smaller items that tend to move around in larger sections of the bag. I also noted as others have there is no built-in elastic compartment on the outside of the bag for water bottle storage, but one might use a carabiner clip, which could attached to a number of available anchoring points on the outside of the bag. Although not a direct criticism of this bag, I did discover it would be helpful to have an additional small protective bag for just the camera & attached lens while one travels as I tend to carry my camera around my neck for extended periods of time while touring; of course, this places the uncovered camera at risk of bumping into hard structures or dropping should your strap somehow break loose. Lastly, I was disappointed with the difficulty I had using the single sling arrangement for a simple over one shoulder carrying arrangement; I had no carrying trouble with the single sling if used over my head & one shoulder, but using the single sling on just the shoulder for quick removal resulted in the bag frequently having to be readjusted upwards as it tended to easily slide off the shoulder while being carried this way. I'm still satisfied overall with the purchase. An added benefit of this bag is it can be used as a day pack for photography hikes since it will accommodate more than just a DSLR camera and several lenses.

Camera section supposed to be a rectangular so it will easily to pull out your lens.

Received the Adaptor 46 a couple of days ago. It is as advertised with great adaptability in being able to customize the internal pockets. I like the variable sling straps and the quick access to the main compartment from either side. Another plus is the strategically hidden rain cover. Looking forward to using this bag on our next travels.

I bought this bag on sale and so far I’ve been very happy with it. I’m short (5’2”) and I like how it fits my body. My only complaint is that I wish it had a few more pockets for misc items like cards and batteries.

Love the way it holds shape and doesn't just flop down. Was about to fit the D850 w/85mm mounted on top pocket, Tamron 15-30 v2, nikkor 10.5mm, and tamron 70-200 v1 in middle pockets.

A good everyday camera bag. There is enough room in there for my laptop, dslr camera and four lenses. There is also a separate compartment for accessories such as charger and filters.

The greatest aspect of this bag is that there is room enough to hold a D600 with Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 attached! The sturdy, removable inner panels allow for countless configurations. Lots of space for a small bag. I searched long and hard for something to meet my needs. I found it! Couldn't be more pleased.
