Ballheads come in a variety of capacities and configurations to suit specific needs. Shopper : i am bound to a power chair 24/7. it is nearly impossible to use a regular tripod. does anyone have any experience with this side extending center leg?JM L : Hi there: I used this tripod for several years and just recently replaced it because it was too small and too light for me. It doesn't do well in high winds because of its carbon fiber construction. I also didn't like that the legs got "floppy" over time, they no longer stick in their position, but rather flip flop around loosely, unless they are adjusted to one of the shallower angles. I did like the twist locks and that I never had any dirt problems with the legs (and I am not too careful about sand, surf and dirt) As far as the articulated center column goes, that works quite well and I used it whenever I had to reach over a ledge or through a fence. However, it does put the camera off center with respect to center of gravity. If I may comment on your notion that you can't use regular tripods: all tripods that have individual leg adjustments like this one (and most others, not the type that has braces between legs) can be adjusted so that one leg is not extended at all (that leg could be between your legs on the chair) while the others are fully extended out, perhaps at a shallow angle to reach far enough. I actually use that arrangement to have one short leg on fence ledges while two long legs are going down to the ground. Or you can have two short legs right and left of your body on the chair and one going straight out away from you.
Shopper : There are only two reviews for this tripod by people with very similar user names. I wondered if the same person reviewed it twice and changed his/her mind. (?) I am wondering if this tripod is worth the money. Would you recommend it?Brad P : For the number of times that I have used the tripod it has performed very well. I would have no problems recommending this tripod.

Disapointing performance

Very disappointed in the performance of this tripod. I was hoping to use the horizontal arm feature to take flower and macro photos. It proved to be unstable, unbalanced and cumbersome. The locking devises were hard to manipulate. It was too expensive to have those kinds of problems.

I've been happy with the tripod. The horizontal arm is good for macrophotography and seems to lock in place easily. Very well designed and stable
