Questions & Answers

James Z : Is the quick release plate compatible with the Manfrotto 501?NOEL M : Not that I believe so because this plate actually slides on through the plate and does not clip on like the traditional manfrotto tripods. I believe this type of plate is called an S-type but double check. In order to use the plate you would have to switch the whole tripod head and the advantage is that this type of plate could be used with other heads from other manufacturers that have the S-type plate so you don't have to buy specific plates for other heads. Hope this helps....GEORGE S : I have no idea.FERNANDO C : The plate it self is not compatible, my recomendation buy the whole head. ThanksKATHY M : I am satisfied with it. PREMKUMAR R : I am using it with Induro tripodPERRY H : No, it is not. The SBH-300 takes an Arca-Swiss type plate. There are plate adapters, tho, if you wish to use one on the other. Google for them. They are not inexpensive, usually.PATRICK B : Great Ball Head....will have to check regarding plate....btw a question. When could I expect a Nikon 800E to be delivered ...if I changed my order from another Vendor.......and how safe is delivery from damage enroute? 415_271 1176 Patrick Burke
robert b : will this ball head attach to any tripod? I have a silk tripod at the time, or do you have to by an additional tripod to use thisMICHAEL B : It will attach on all tripods I've used. I have a Manfroto right now.PEDRO B : The SBH-300 should attach to any tripod. I have 2 different tripods and use the head with both. Just check your tripod to see if it has a reversable retaining stud for the ball head. I have the Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT tripod, and that has a 1/4"-20 stud and it includes the 3/8"-16 adapter. That combination takes on any ball head. Please call the sales dept. to make sure about the compatibility of your Slik tripod with the SBH-300. I love the SBH-300 head and the Alta Pro 283CT combination that I purchased. I take scenic and macro photography with that combination without any problems.LORIS F : It has the standars connection 3/8" and the adapter for 1/4".WILLIAM P : You should be able to mount it to any tripod. The bottom of the SBH-300 has a threaded insert screwed into the body to accept a 3/8" bolt from your tripod. I believe you can remove this insert and replace it with one to match whatever threads your tripod uses (though I never tried it).
Randy B : Any reason why I can't use this ballhead on a Slik Pro 780DX tripod?RALPH P : I have never owned a Slik tripod but I can't imagine not being able to use this head with it. I can tell that I was impressed with this ballhead. The capacity, quality and price make this a true bargain.ROLLIN M : Randy, Yers it will fit based on the thread size required to mount it. I have this ball head and use it for a 4x5 view camera, works great.HARRY B : Hi Randy, I can't speak to the particular tripod. I have a Manfrotto 485B, but I've found that the head is very satisfactory.HARRY B : I've found this tripod head to be very satisfactory. I would buy a second one if the need comes up.

Vanguard SBH-300 Ballhead

This is an extremely strong unit which I use for target shooting. I've mounted a large (6lb)spotting scope to it and have mounted the unit itself to a 6" x 9" x 1/2" thick aluminum plate which I clamp to the shooting bench. It has no problem maintaining zero even with some high recoiling rifles. I am also able to see 22 caliber holes out to 200 yds.

Review after 20 months of use

I have been using this ballhead for almost 2 years in pretty much all kinds of situations ranging from indoor events to landscape shots of the badlands, and pretty much everything in between. First the positive, the built quality is excellent. It is very resistant to dust and moisture, and the knobs are easy to use even when wet. The head has plenty of movement to position your camera whichever way you may need.Unfortunately, the locking mechanism is mediocre to say the least. For the past three months I have started experiencing a severe creep when the camera is mounted on the tripod and locked in any position other than flat. This happens with a Nikon D700 and a 50mm f/1.4 lens, so it is not a matter of exceeding the weight capacity. In my opinion, it looks like wear on the locking mechanism is showing up and that is shameful on a ballhead priced at this level. If you buy this item you are paying for a [$]lesson on choosing a durable ballhead. Let me save you some money: Avoid this item and look someplace else.

Unbelievable for the price

I can't see any need for any other ballhead. Very heavy duty and easy to control head .

I bought 2 of this product

I use this product for video and photography but most of all for self-defense against camera snatchers and muggers. They tried it on me once in downtown Los Angeles and I got that big dude crawling like a baby reptile.

Very heavy duty

I've been using this to support a big Toyo 4x5 rail camera. The camera is heavy but this head hold it steady as a rock (on a Vangaurd Tracker tripod). After seeing this head on the Vangaurd tripod, I was sold instantly on the quality. It's a screaming deal. It's built like a tank. Not good for backpacking since the tripod is 6 or 7lbs by itself, but fine for a brief hike if you can secure it to a pack.

Very affordable, Top quality Ballhead

Heavy duty, top of the line quality, at a great price. I've used it with a Canon 500 F4 and 300 2.8 lens. The ballhead works smooth and is rock solid. The ballhead is rated for up to a 70 lb. load. It handled my camera and lenses with a breeze. Great Product!!!
