This is an extremely strong unit which I use for target shooting. I've mounted a large (6lb)spotting scope to it and have mounted the unit itself to a 6" x 9" x 1/2" thick aluminum plate which I clamp to the shooting bench. It has no problem maintaining zero even with some high recoiling rifles. I am also able to see 22 caliber holes out to 200 yds.

I have been using this ballhead for almost 2 years in pretty much all kinds of situations ranging from indoor events to landscape shots of the badlands, and pretty much everything in between. First the positive, the built quality is excellent. It is very resistant to dust and moisture, and the knobs are easy to use even when wet. The head has plenty of movement to position your camera whichever way you may need.Unfortunately, the locking mechanism is mediocre to say the least. For the past three months I have started experiencing a severe creep when the camera is mounted on the tripod and locked in any position other than flat. This happens with a Nikon D700 and a 50mm f/1.4 lens, so it is not a matter of exceeding the weight capacity. In my opinion, it looks like wear on the locking mechanism is showing up and that is shameful on a ballhead priced at this level. If you buy this item you are paying for a [$]lesson on choosing a durable ballhead. Let me save you some money: Avoid this item and look someplace else.

I can't see any need for any other ballhead. Very heavy duty and easy to control head .

I use this product for video and photography but most of all for self-defense against camera snatchers and muggers. They tried it on me once in downtown Los Angeles and I got that big dude crawling like a baby reptile.

I've been using this to support a big Toyo 4x5 rail camera. The camera is heavy but this head hold it steady as a rock (on a Vangaurd Tracker tripod). After seeing this head on the Vangaurd tripod, I was sold instantly on the quality. It's a screaming deal. It's built like a tank. Not good for backpacking since the tripod is 6 or 7lbs by itself, but fine for a brief hike if you can secure it to a pack.

Heavy duty, top of the line quality, at a great price. I've used it with a Canon 500 F4 and 300 2.8 lens. The ballhead works smooth and is rock solid. The ballhead is rated for up to a 70 lb. load. It handled my camera and lenses with a breeze. Great Product!!!
