This tripod is exactly what I thought it would be. It's light, sets up in a snap, locks securely, and has a great range. The only thing I've noticed so far that might be considered a "con", is that because it is so light, I noticed some vibrations and shaking in the wind that ruined a could night shots. You could probably fix this with a sand bag.

I bought this for carrying in a back pack and it is well suited for this - light weight, but with some compromises: 1) swivel lock is same as vertical axis (tilt) lock when center post raised, but without the center post raised you can lock the tilt and still pan OK, 2) handle for horizontal axis lock (portrait or landscape) has to be fully unscrewed for transport. A nice feature: splay of legs can be set in 3 different positions - great for getting low. I have a heavy zoom (Canon 100-400 L IS) lens and the tripod can handle this weight just fine.

I love my velbon! It's not a heavy duty tripod, but it IS a real tripod that can support an SLR with some pro glass, and is light enough to carry easily and is crazy versatile. For a travel 'pod that can do the business, this is the shizzle. I use it back country camping/hiking and on motorcycle trips where size and weight are major issues. It has some stability limitations, but I'm willing to work around them.

The tri-pod came wtih no booklet or any kind of manual. The legs don't stay in the locked position and I have found it not to be what I thought it was.:(
