Where is the light box or a frame or something more than a [$] piece of plastic?

Questions about this item:

Elizabeth J  Is this viewer back lighted?
Andrew R  This unit is a translucent sorting tray and is not equipped with a light of any type. It's designed to be used with a light box.
Elizabeth J  Is this lighted or do I have to use the sunlight coming through a window?
KEITH J  I bought this tray a couple of years ago. It is just a sheet of white translucent plastic, pretty flimsy. It has corrigations that you rest the slides against. It will hold a lot of slides at one time for sorting. I mounted it in a wood frame and put a florescent light behind it. The frame had angled sides so the tray was held at an angle for good visibility. It worked fine for me, but you do have to have a light source behind it. It is stored away flat for future use. Don't use it often, just for sorting old slides before converting to digital. Keith.
June D  Is this a stand alone sorter; is it lit?
KEITH J  I am sending this at the suggestion of ADORAMA who noted that I had bought this slide sorter earlier. I bought one of these some months ago, because I did not want to pay a lot and wanted a large sorting surface. It is just a big piece of thin translucent plastic molded with ridges to support the slides when it is tilted back at an angle. It is pretty flimsy so I built a frame for it and glued it into the frame. A friend gave me a florescent tube light which does a great job when laid down behind it. I sorted a ton of slides preparatory to converting them to digita. I was happy with the result, and now the frame is folded up and stored away. I also can recommend the scanner I used. It is the ION omni scan model FS186A Be sure you get the right model because some earlier ones were not very good.
June D  Thanks Keith, You wouldn't want to sell yours would you? I have umpteen slides, I haven't counted, it would be too discouraging. I was looking for a sturdy stand alone sorter. I had planned to send the sorted slides to a company I saw on the internet, to have them put on a DVD, but it sounds like you have done your own scanning and burning to a disc? Thanks for all the info. June
