Questions & Answers

jorge d : I this compatible with the Canon g12 to a vivaria flash?GEORGE H : I had a Olympus FL-40 Electronic Flash that I used with my Olympus Camedia C-4040ZOOM Digital Camera for quite a number of years. When my son and daughter surprised me with a new camera (Canon Rebel 3Ti), I decided that I would get an off shoe flash, but the prices turned me off. I then investigated various flash cords that would interface with my Olympus FL-40 which I loved. The Vivatar appeared to fit the bill, and I was not disappointed. It works fine. As far as the Canon g12 is concerned, I cannot say whether or not it would be compatible with your flash using this flash cord. Sometime things work out and sometime they do not, but the price was right to try it after some serious research. I am sorry I cannot tell you for sure, but only relate my experience.ANDREW R : This cable should work with most Canon cameras equipped with a dedicated hot-shoe.
Shopper : iS THIS GOOD WITH T3i?JAMES H : I'm pretty sure it is, but haven't verified it. If the camera has 5 electrical contacts in the hot shoe, it will work fine.DANIEL G : IT WORKS ON MY CANON T2I WITH MY VIVITAR 285 FLASH WITH THE VIVITAR PRO HANDLE , I BUT I USE IT IN MANUEL SETTING UNTIL I BUY A CANON FLASHJARROD C : I have a Canon EOS 60d that I purchased this Vivitar flash cord for. It works just fine. The only complaint I have is that the locking mechanisms are a little sloppy at the connection to the camera and at the connection to the flash, and sometimes you lose communication between the camera and the flash. You usually know it right away because the image is way overexposed, but it is an issue nonetheless. As far as it working with a T3i, I would assume that it would work just fine since I believe the flash contacts are standardized across Canon's line of digital SLR cameras. And, the Vivitar flash cord is purposed for Canon digital SLR cameras.JESUS O : It should. It works fine with my T1i.RICHARD F : I'm not sure this will help. I am using mine with a Canon 60D and have not had any problems.GREG P : yes will work fineHIDEKI U : Yes.
Leslie E : Is this item compatible with a Canon 60D and 580 EX II flash?DANNY T : Not sure about the 60D. I am using it on a 7D with a 580EXII and it works with no problemCHRISTOPHER M B : Yes...this cable works just like a Canon OC-E3. Therefore, it will work with any modern Canon camera and the full line of Canon flashes and should have no problem with eTTL communications with your camera/flash combo.JOHN C : Yes this works with your Canon flash and I am using it with a Canon T1i Camera. If the 580EX II works on your camera this will extend it so it will work off camera.JAMES H : It worked with a 60D and 550 flash. If the 580 also requires a five pin connection, it should work with it too. FYI - My Canon cord broke and I replaced it with the Vivtiar. The latter had metal in place of plastic where my Canon had broken. -The Canon uses a screw thread to lock the cable onto the camera and strobe, while the Vivitar uses a lever. The Vivitar is easier to use, but I don't know if it will get wobbly after heavy use. So far, so good.

Good product

Haven't used it yet except to hook it up and try it. Did seem to attach to the camera hot shoe hard but once on it worked fine. Cord seems to be heavy enough to last. Good value for the price.

It works, could be better

It works, does what it is supposed to do. It is very difficult to connect though and does not seat correctly unless you really force it in all the way. I don't like really wrenching on my expensive camera stuff so I was hesitant to force it and it wasn't seated correctly and would not work at first. After I forced the connector into the Camera's hot shoe, it worked fine, but it is no where near as smooth as connecting the flash directly into the shoe.

Good quality

Works great to reposition a Speedlite close to the subject instead of on the hotshoe for macro shots. No problem with E-TTL or manual modes. The connections are snug and fit well. Looks like a quality product that will last long.

Almost perfect

Great cord, sturdy, nice length. The only issue is sometimes it will not communicate between the camera and the flash and you have to re-seat the flash or the connection to the camera. Happens about 1 out of every 50 times.

Sturdy, thick cord. Does not kink.

The VIV-FC-CAN Digital Off-Shoe Flash Cord is for all dedicated flash units for Canon cameras. One end of the cord plugs into the hotshoe of the camera, and the other has a hotshoe connection for the flash. This allows the flash to be removed from the camera's hot shoe for creative lighting, but the flash still communicates with the camera.
