What is the main purpose of the Vivitar Multi-Coated Circular Polarizer (CPL) Glass Filter, 58mm?

The main purpose of this filter is to reduce glare and reflections in your photographs, thereby improving image quality and contrast. It also polarizes the light entering the lens, which increases contrast and saturation.

Is the Vivitar Multi-Coated Circular Polarizer (CPL) Glass Filter, 58mm suitable for outdoor photography?

Yes, this filter is designed to be durable and versatile, making it ideal for outdoor photography. It has proven its resilience in challenging environments, from blowing sand to rain sprinkles.

Does the rounded design of the Vivitar Multi-Coated Circular Polarizer (CPL) Glass Filter, 58mm have any specific benefits?

Yes, the unique rounded design of this filter helps to minimize vignetting and darkening of the corners of your images, resulting in more evenly lit and exposed photographs.

Is the Vivitar Multi-Coated Circular Polarizer (CPL) Glass Filter, 58mm easy to clean?

Yes, despite being subjected to harsh conditions like blowing sand and rain, this filter cleans up as good as new, maintaining its quality over time.

George F : Is this cpl filter compatible with canon sx 50 hs camera? thanking you in advance.DAVID L : All circular polarizers are compatible with all cameras and camcorders. The linear polarizers are limited in the case of digital cameras. Check out Hoya, I think you will find them superior, even comparable to the very best German filters in actual tests (the HD2 series has generally beaten them for far less cost).ALLAN B : Dear George, I don't know that specific camera, but no matter what type of camera you have, the circular polarizer will do the trick. I've used both linear and circular for many years on different types of cameras and the dircular one always produced excellent results under a variety of conditions which the linear not always could cope with. Hope this helps, AllanGLENN W : What lens are you using it on? The filter is made for a 58MM lens, which is a common size. So check your lens first. The size is located on the end of the lens itself. This filter is designed to rotate in its ring to give you added flexibility. But that caused me problems with my zoom lens since the barrel rotated as it zoomed in and out. I also found it darker than I like so I did not use it much. I ended up selling it.RICHARD S : This filter will not work with your camera due to its size (58mm). You need an adapter (FA-DC67A). Attach this to the lens and you can use any commercially available 67mm filter.
Shopper : How does the Vivitar circular polarizer compare to a Hoya circular polarizer, as it is significantly less expensive? I have used Vivitar Series 1 lenses in the past, along with 283 flash units that I still use, and have been very satisfied with the products. Still, before purchasing, I would like to feel confident that the Vivitar filter works at least as well as a Hoya.Bill M : If you have been happy using Vivitar products in the past, and your work is on a level that does not generally necessitate using more expensive equipment, you should be fine with the Vivitar CPL. However, there are going to be quality differences between a ~$20 filter and a ~$70 filter. Hoya filters tend to be very well built, and there are websites that go in depth about how they can have better optical qualities than the more affordable alternatives. Once again, whether your work is on a level that the difference will matter - is something only you can answer.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?DON J T : PRICEJerry W : The price.

Deep blue skies and bellowing clouds

Then lens is a terrific value. I finally understand why the sky and clouds in my photo's were never as sharp and deep blue as those taken by the pro's! I recommend it strongly.

Better than the Price suggests!

The Vivitar Circular Polarizer is a great value. Image quality is consistent across the whole frame. It rotates easily but says put when you’re done adjusting it and, although it looks like the ring it’s mounted in is wide, it’s really all the way out of the way - no vinetting issues.

this CPL works well on my Nikon 70-300 mm lens, where I'm in the Greek Isles shooting in some mist haze surrounded by sea and sun

Pretty good for the price!

A 72mm PL filter for under $?? What the heck, I thought I'd try it. It seems to do the job and the build quality is fine. I'm sure a critical review comparing it to high-end filters might find it has a tint to it or perhaps other flaws, but I'm using this for web photos and so it gets the job done at a nice price.

Absolutely Awful

This filter makes it impossible to focus correctly, whether using autofocus or doing it manually. It behaves the same way on both my Sigma 150-600 (S) and my Sigma 120-300mm. I've never seen anything like it in several decades of photography.

For the price it is hard to beat, screws on to the front of the lens very smoothly, Works exactly why I brought it.

Great contrast enhancement

Bought this CPL for my 150-600mm zoom lens. Works great for wildlife photography on sunny days e.g. whale/dolphin at sea.  The performance/price is very good.

Poor Quality, camera could not focus

The threads on the filter are cut coarsely which makes it seem as if there is grit between the filter & lens. The filter made images appear extremely soft. No adjustments were possible. I would not recommend this purchase.

Unreliable

I had purchased a Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary lens with the filter and tested the lens which is razor sharp at 600mm. I put the Vivitar CPL on and took several pictures and made adjustments and reviewed the pictures on Lightroom and found the pictures taken with the filter to be out of focus blurry removed the filter and tested again and it was also razor sharp without the filter. I will be looking for a better quality CPL filter to go onto my lens and I don't recommend the filter.

Love it

Ok, not sure if I wrote a previous review. But recently I broke this filter. I think I dropped my camera bag on the ground and it broke. But I have to say, even though it broke, it did not break into pieces! It was laminated or something. Nothing broke off. I am impressed. I have had others shatter, and I was at a kids party when I discovered it broke. So I was REALLY happy it did not shatter like other I have had. I broke it many months ago, so that it was difficult to turn. And even though it was more difficult to spin, it still was a great filter. I considered getting a "better" one, but this one was fantastic. I drop and bang my camera a lot, but almost always use a CPL or NDF. I have dropped them out of windows and all sorts of crazy things, and it did not break. By far the longest I have been able to keep a filter from shattering, scratching, ect.

Amazing filter

I am using this circular polarizing filter on my Minolta AF 50mm lens on my Sony A-37. its amazing what the difference is in image coloration vs a standard UV filter. for the price tag its worth getting over a standard UV filter and the build quality is good as well.
