Decent product but ----

The remote seems to work properly, but the idiot that wrote the tiny manual has no idea what to say to make things clear.. The manual is so tiny that you will need a magnifying glass to read it. The worst problem you have is turning the remote on. There is no where in the tiny manual that tells you how to turn the receiver on. If you call Vivitar you will get someone in India that speaks such poor English that you will not be able to understand a work they are saying. I did give the unit 2 stars because it seems to work and the price is right.

Fun to use.

I have just used this a couple times. It's fun to use. With little kids you can talk and play with them while taking their pictures. It worked perfectly with my Nikon D810.

I have no idea how this works, wrong item for my camera. Gave it three stars because I have to. Never was able to try it.

The price is right.

Worked perfectly with my Nikon d810. Price was right for what I needed. Directions are ambiguous, but you can figure it out.

Excellent Remote

Some of the Q&A I read about this remote indicated it wouldn't work with the Nikon D810. It DOES work and it works great. The instructions aren't the clearest explanation on how to turn it on. You have to hold down the on button for a few seconds. Then if needed reset the frequency on the transmitter per the instructions. And Viola! It works great. I love that it works with or without the wireless transmitter. You can use the wired receiver to trip the shutter as well.

Works Well

This remote shutter release works as advertised with a D800. I haven't tested the outer limits of its range, but it has been reliable in my shooting situations, which have included large function rooms. If your hot shoe is occupied by another device (e.g., a flash unit), you can simply let the receiver unit dangle -- it's light enough -- although you might want to hook it to some part of your tripod using an improvised lanyard. Also, save the plastic bubble from the packaging to use as a protector over the transmitter, secured with a rubber band. This will prevent unwanted button presses in a crowded gadget bag. (There is no master power switch on the transmitter.)

Works great

I prefer a wireless remote, since I do a lot of light painting and many times I am up on some rocks or 25 feet away from the camera when I release the shutter. Also comes in handy when you want to be in the photo.

personal VR (vibration reduction)

If you want to minimize vibrations when taking pictures, try this remote shutter release. It eliminates blurred/shaken pictures due to hand movement or shakes when pressing the camera's shutter button. It has great range (tested up to 20 feet wireless) and has low battery consumption. It can be used as a cabled shutter release or wireless shutter release. A must for photo enthusiasts.

A Lousy Product From a Good Company

The description made the product sound wonderful. When it arrived I was surprised that I had to guess which way to put in the battery (no "+" or "-"). The instructions were printed in a font that was way too small, and by someone who never wrote an instruction manual. When I hooked it to my beloved D300, it caused the shutter to continuously fire, taking 5 pictures per second on the inside of my lens cap. The pathetic little manual provides no diagnostic assistance, and the Vivitar web site is useless for support. All in all... a pathetic product.

Great product

Great product for the price!! Build rugged and seems like will last a long time. Well thought design and carrying accessories and key chain! A must have for macros, long exposures and group shots on a Nikon D300.

A welcome surprise

I was pleasantly surprised by the consistency I had gotten from this remote. Normally I am a brand man. Apple, Nikon, etc, but though initially skeptical, I can say that this is a fine remote that I would recommend to others who need more range then IR can give.
