Vixen R130Sf 130mm Diameter Newtonian Telescope Optical Tube
This lightweight 5" reflector is a favorite of many new astronomers because it features remarkable light gathering with sharp images for its price and size. With a standard 20mm Plossl more than the entire moon fills the eyepiece.
You'll view innumerable star clusters and dark clouds, not to mention nebulas and galaxies. Add a 32mm and the heavens open up with a remarkable 2.5 degree field of view! All of the stars in the Pleiades can be viewed at the same time.
The visual observer will enjoy wide views of deep sky objects. Actual groups of nebula or clusters can be viewed at the same time with this instrument.
The R130Sf comes standard with the 6 x 30 finder and dovetail tube plate that fits very well on all the Vixen mounts. This is a scope you can start with on a basic user-friendly Porta Mount and later move up to one of the electronic mounts such as the Skypod or Sphinx.
The PORTA comes equipped with two fine adjustment handles for whole circle slow motion in both directions. It is useful for fine motion used in searching and tracking of celestial objects. In addition it is a great mount for terrestrial viewing.
The gear drives make it a simple matter to precisely track a planet or a ship on the horizon by simply turning the elevation and or azimuth control handles. The World-Standard dovetail attachment system on PORTA was developed by Vixen. This allows the PORTA to accept various dovetail mounted optical tubes and binoculars.

I’ve owned the Vixen R130Sf now for about 2 years. It has been right from the start a good scope. I bought it in the Porta mount package. The initial images of the moon and Jupiter were eye watering and I especially liked the way the slow motion controls kept the object in sight without making it all jittery like my older (and cheaper) scope did. Last summer we had the chance to get out in the country and that’s when the 5†mirror did its best. I was able to show my wife and kids some pretty cool clusters and nebula. It was just fun scanning through the Milky Way galaxy with the slow motion controls. The two eyepieces that come with the scope are good but I did wind up buying an additional 40mm eyepiece for extra wide views.
