A professional look for less.
Perfect for portraits, product photography, video conferencing and more. This 5' x 7' X-Drop backdrop incorporates grommets along the top and bottom for easy hanging and a taut fit. Also contains a 2" pole pocket. Take a step back in time with a high-quality modern vintage backdrop representing the timeless look and feel of past eras.
Change the look and feel of these amazing backdrops through simple lighting techniques. High-key lighting results in the pattern being very visible and vibrant in your images. Low-key lighting mutes the background for a softer "barely there" effect. Easily vignette your background with a background light (perfect for glamour shots with dramatic results). No need to worry about removing seams in post-production as all of Westcott's backdrops are seamless to ensure professional results.
We have carefully chosen our material to reflect a wrinkle resistant fabric. Simply hang your backdrop using the included pole pocket and the weight of the fabric will pull most unwanted wrinkles out right away. If heavy wrinkles still exist, simply steam the backside of the background paying special attention to not over moisten or "overheat" the embossed velour. Many embossed fabrics naturally have a reflection due to the manufacturing process. At Westcott, we have developed a system to remove unwanted reflections from this process leaving the background with a matte finish. This matte finish ensures perfect results when lighting the backdrop. Reflections can cause difficulty in lighting the backdrop, loss of background detail and unwanted highlights.
Note: Colors may vary slightly on electronic displays. To ensure true color, we recommend visiting a local dealer to view this product in-person.
This product is quite easy to setup, but the footprint for the stand is rather large. The frame is also a bit fragile, but with proper care should survive. Shouldn't be too difficult to make a standard black and a std white backdrop with some fabric and a few grommets. The background that I received has a pattern that repeats a bit too frequently, but will be OK for many applications. Liking the transportability factor. Also will serve well in my in-home studio when I want to do a single subject portrait without having to setup the 10X20 rig. Used it twice thus far with great success.
I scrambled for an emergency backdrop kit as I needed to take some pictures for a web page profile. Settled on the black kit and it worked out great! Using 3 lights with dimmers and this kit, in moments I had a basic mini-studio. The kit is rather "deep" when deployed, but that's the price for stability. The aluminum frame is made for indoor use, I can't ever see it stand up to any kind of a wind. The only gripe I have is about the case - it's too small to carry the backdrop and the frame and waaaay to large for just the frame itself. I abandoned the cloth case for the backdrop and purchased Sunpak Medium Tripod Case from Adorama which fits the rolled up material like a glove. Overall it was a win - I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to have a basic kit for some portrait shots.
Easy to set up and can go anywhere.
Fast, light weight, one hand operation backdrop that can be set up almost any where. The drops are wrinkle free and they give a Big Bang to portraits in a complimentary way. On the down side I have heavy hands so it feels almost to fragile ...maybe if they put a little more stock in the frame in would be closer to a perfect product.
The X-Drop works as advertised. It is very light weight, nearly to the point of being flimsy. I would NOT reccomend using this product outside unless you can guarantee absolutely no wind. There is a hook for attaching ballast, but I wouldn't trust it to hold enough to keep it upright and stationary. This should do fine indoors for casual, gentle use.
I use this for portraits and video interviews. It's small and light-weight. My only complaint is the easel-like stand requires a bit of depth. But this is usually not a problem.
I'm really excited about this backdrop. I use it as a backdrop for portraits and works well. This backdrop is not for group shots, unless your talking about a small group of 3 people and even that is a maybe (depending on the size of your subjects). The backdrop can be setup and taken down rather quickly is lightweight and can be easily transported.
Very easy to set up and easy to purchase fabric at the store, install some gromets and make your own backdrops at a fraction of the manufacturres price. But you need the stand and at least one backdrop to get started.
Seems a little flimsy but the setup is fast and does the job that I was looking for. It is much easier then bringing stands and a cross bar.
I purchased the Westcott 5' X 7' Drop Screen KIt so I could set up a temporary portrait studio in my home. I mostly shoot head shots and individual portraits, so the size is perfect for this use. It is too small for a group shot. The Drop screen is easy to set up and take down. I have several backdrop screens and these can be changed very quickly. When storing or traveling, the entire stand, and one backdrop, easily fit in the provided case. If you are looking for a portable back drop that is easy to store and transport, this kit is perfect.
