I bought this as a boom for speed lights and modifiers for hair lights and future expansion to studio lights. Thought it would fit onto my current light stands (manfrotto 052B). Was surprised to learn the clamp needs a minimum of a 22mm pole to clamp to. That would have been nice to know before buying. The top section of my manfroto stands are 15mm. I ended up making a DIY adaptor from a 1/2 pipe and a rubber hose slipped over it, so consequently, I never take it off of that stand. I'll need to buy a sturdier stand with thicker tubes. But even with a stand with thicker tubes, adjusting the clamp is awkward with the plastic parks snapping into place with a pop as it's tightened. Not what I expected at all. Improve the clamp and it's a winner. With that clamp, I can't recommend it.

in combination with a medium sized lightsource and a small strip-light softbox, this will make a great hairlight, kicker or accent light.
