This is a good kit for the occasional indoors portrait. Would recommend still using your camera flash to help set a low ISO of 100 and still get a good shutter speed. Otherwise you will have to use a higher ISO of around 400 - 800.

500 watts is not enough power to light your subject properly. You should buy at least 750 - 1000 watts per light to properly light your subject. With this kit you need to up your ISO to at least 400 to get a good exposure with your camera handheld. Then you start getting too much noise in your shots.

Had this product for over a year now... it is well suited for at-home or on-location use. Set up is relatively easy, and even if you are a novice to portrait lighting, this thing will have you looking like you know what you're doing. I started getting 'wow' results on my second use, which got me a small gig shooting kindergarteners at my daughter's school. Consistent results from then on. Out of the box, however, I did have problems with one of the heads not functioning at all, and another blew two bulbs during the first outing; (hence the 4 stars). Westcott customer service was very good in replacing both heads, and there have been no problems since. I did find out later on (b4 second use) that touching the bulbs with bare hands sometimes leaves oil residue on the glass, which can cause differential heating, which would result in blown bulbs. Wipe bulbs with lens cleaning fluid b4 using and you'll be fine; no blown bulbs since. All in all, this little kit has really peaked my intrest in studio photography, and will hopefully lead to bigger and better things.
