Westcott has enhanced the already popular umbrella product line by building the frame with fiberglass ribs. The fiberglass ribs provides added durability for those on-location situations and windy days!
Umbrellas allow for a quick and easy set-up. Black cover creates a soft silver interior as a bounce source. Remove the black cover and it can be positioned close to the subject for a shoot-through diffuser

works great! versatile
This umbrella works great! I even had one of my strobes go out on me and this was all I used for a group of 9 in a small studio. -I love that I can use it as a shoot-through or a reflective umbrella! Nice LARGE size. Other review was correct, but all umbrellas are advertised like that. It is 60" including the arc not across.

Misleading in advertised size
Maybe it's just my own ignorance of the topic but a 60" umbrella should, in my opinion, be 60" in diameter. This umbrella is not. It's about 48" in diameter. A call to Westscott revealed that they measure the arc length not the diameter. Maybe everyone does. I don't know. I was looking for a large reflective surface to use on location instead of a 3x4 softbox. It's "usable" but it's not what I expected.

Exactly what I wanted. Low tech but it softens light just like an expensive one.
The entire umbrella looks and feels sturdy. The satin umbrella, the black cover, and frame all look and feel like they will hold up to years of use. I did just receive the umbrella, but during an indoor test shoot yesterday I was able to assemble and uncover the umbrella with ease. In addition, it spreads light evenly and beautifully. One thing I wish it did come with is a protective cover/sleeve. It does come with a plastic display sleeve, but once the umbrella has been opened it's impossible to squeeze it back to its factory packing. Despite that minor wish, I look forward to testing it under various conditions and finding that it's reliable enough to order more in the future.
I have used it in two photo shoots so far, but works, feels and perform outstanding.
I bought two of the Westcott 60 inch Umbrella because all of the great review and excellent price. I needed them to setup a basic 45 degrees main/ fill lighting for an outdoor green-screen sports portrait, and even with some really strong winds, they worked great and gave me a beautiful light.
I've only used it twice, but it performed exactly as promised. Opened and closed easily, lightweight, reflected all kinds of light. I haven't tried it as a shoot through, but I don't see why it wouldn't work well there also.
This is the all-around light mod. If you're going to carry umbrellas in your 'light kit' grab a couple of these guys. All the things that were build problems in Wescott's smaller umbrellas are remedied in this model... solid rounded shaft, fiberglass ribs and construction, better stitch and fabric quality, sturdy removable cover tips and umbrella point... all of it is much, MUCH better quality and seems on par with some of the more expensive ones I've checked out. The only issue is it's size... it's big! If you're looking for a run-and-gun packable umbrella, this is not for you. However, if you want a great studio/location umbrella, spend the extra $10 and move up from Wescott's 43" and get this durable and reliable umbrella. It's well worth it!
It works well in both bounce and shoot through. Easy to carry , and lightweight.
A little time consuming to convert, but worth it.
Product was great for a large family group of 15. Used four strobes to shoot through and added great fill light for a outdoor shoot
Must use something to hold it down. If it falls over it will break. It's happened twice.
