Planned Obsolescence?

I have to buy these to protect my camera investment but I think Wein has a built-in failure window of about 2 years. I'm currently on my 3rd one and am sending the other two back to Wein. I warn anyone buying this not to expect it to last as long as you expect and buy a backup.

Excellent Product

Does exactly what it claims - it isolates the flash from the camera electrically. In my case I wanted to be able to use a Vivitar 285 flash with a Nikon D40 and F100. My Vivitar shows 8.1 volts DC at the hotshoe contacts which should be OK on newer cameras, but I was concerned about instaneous higher voltage spikes when triggering the flash. The Wein works flawlessly. Note that this item is PC to PC and not hotshoe mount. (I use a Nikon hotshoe to PC adapter for the D40-I forget the item number) Using the flash this way also forces manual flash / camera settings because you lose all the TTL CLS automation.

Absolutely necessary for DSLRs

The Wein Safe-Sync allows me to use my Vivitar 283s with the confidence that I'm not damaging the electronics in my Minolta Maxxum 7D and Sony A100 by reducing the trigger voltage to a safe level.

The safe sync gives you peace of mind.

I really don't know what voltage I'm switching with my camera (or radios) when I hook to a studio flash. With the safe sync I don't have to worry about it.

Highly Recommended

The Wein Safe-Sync allows me to use my old reliable Vivitar 283 with the KM Maxxum 7D without worrying about frying the 7D electronics.

SAFE SYNCS Safely reduces any electronic flash source from up to 400 volts to less than 6 volts to the camera sync input. This is absolutely mandatory for all high end and digital cameras.
