Have always been impressed with reliability and range of the two Wein Ultra Slaves I have had for years. I needed another one and decided to try the transmitter while I was at it. It definitely works and the range is good, however I am very disappointed with the quality of the build and the cheap lightweight feeling of the transmitter housing. The battery compartment door is especially cheap/ flimsy/ poorly engineered... and will likely break after a couple of uses. The new Ultra Slave that came with this kit also feels like it is of lesser quality than the older ones I have. 3 stars at this point because it does work (it's new, it should work), but based on the perceived quality I don't expect it to last very long.

SSR systems let you fire your slaved strobes without a triggering flash. No need to hook up a PC cord between the camera and main flash or use a camera-mounted strobe; the SSR transmitter replaces them both. Mount the compact transmitter on your hot shoe, or connect it to the camera PC terminal; each time you shoot, the SSR transmitter fills the studio with an invisible pulse of light. A super-sensitive SSL Ultra Slave picks up the signal from any direction and fires the main flash, which in turn triggers all other slaved strobes in the setup.
