This player could be perfect, if only it would remember where you were at if you stop play. As it is when you hit play, you're back at the beginning of the movie, you have to "pause" the movie. I've contacted support about this, no fix yet. Otherwise it's really nice with some great features, AND it matches my RX-A750 receiver.

I use it as an additional interface for my network. works great, eats everything and thats just what I needed: One machine for all kinds of formats and discs... I have the feeling that I didn't see everything yet, regarding its features...

I PURCHASED THIS UNIT AFTER BEING SO DISSAPPOINTED IN MY TWO SONY BD PLAYERS ( THE FIRST ONE DIDN'T LAST THRU IT'S WARRANTY PERIOD. THE NEWER REPLACEMENT WAS EVEN MORE CHEAPLY MADE). I HAVE A 15 YEAR OLD YAMAHA RECEIVER & AN 8 YEAR OLD DVD PLAYER THAT HAVE GIVEN ME NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. THIS YAMAHA BD PLAYER IS FOR MY MUSIC ROOM, TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OR THE BLURAY AUDIO THAT IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY AVAILABLE. I CHOSE THE A1040 BECAUSE, AS WELL AS DTS & DOLBY'S LOSSLESS BLURAY AUDIO, IT PLAYS DVD, DVD-A, & SACD'S. WHEN SETTING UP THE AUDIO ROOM, I WAS UNSURE WHETHER I'D USE MY OLD OR NEW RECEIVER SO I WAS HAPPY TO SEE A MODEL WITH DIGITAL OPTICAL & COAXIAL OUTS AS WELL AS HDMI. YAMAHA SEEMS TO HAVE MAINTAINED THEIR OVERALL QUALITY MORE THAN THE MAKERS OF MOST CONSUMER ELECTRONICS TODAY. ON THE NOT TOO SERIOUS DOWN SIDE, IN ALL MY YEARS OF BUYING A/V, THIS MAY BE THE SHORTEST POWER CHORD I'VE EVER COME ACROSS. MY OLDER YAMAHA DVD PLAYER'S FRONT PANEL DISPLAYS THE FORMAT (DTS OR DOLBY) & WHETHER OR NOT THE SOURCE IS MULTI-CHANNEL. THIS ONE DOES NOT. IT'S NICE NOT TO HAVE TO SWITCH ON A MONITOR FOR THIS INFO. PROGRAMMING A DISC REQUIRES MORE ENTRIES THAN ON MY OLD YAMAHA. THE LAST THING IS PROBABLY SENTIMENTAL, BUT I STILL PREFER THE OLD AMBER FRONT DISPLAY.

Home use only, connected to a Yamaha RX-A840 Aventage receiver, 65" Samsung curved display and Boston Acoustics "A" series 5.1 speaker configuration. Very good picture and sound quality. But the problems with this unit are the controls and its stability. Often the disc drawer wont open, sometimes the controls lock up. sometimes it stops in the middle of playing a disc. The only way to unfreeze it is to unplug the power cord and wait a few minutes. When the unit was new the Yamaha receiver remote would also control the BD-A1040 giving me a one remote solution. That stopped working a month ago. These are the same complaints I read about regarding the predecessor model the BD-A1020. I had hoped foolishly that the improved model would be.. well improved.

It plays Bluray, SACD, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio (DTS-CD), and of course, CD. Some other brands like Pioneer, Sony players do not play DVD-Audio. But certain WMV, etc video files cannot be played via its USB port.

superb picture and features. spent many hours researching for a blu-ray player with 2-channel audio outputs. no surround system, just an older integrated amplifier that I did not want to part with yet. I do not stream, only play discs so cannot vouch for streaming capability. hard wired with cat6 cable for updates. metal construction makes me confident in it's hardiness.

Could not be more impressed it really out performs any 3d bluray player that I have owned in the past in every aspect.

Great 3d blue ray playback and plays everything. Flac files sound great through my aventage receiver. I have Netflix on my television so it was not a deal breaker but how does it not have Netflix?

A nice looking unit, like the BD-A1020, but for $500(list) this player doesn't even do 4K up conversion and this unit is the latest release for the 2014-2015 model year? Aventage is supposed to be your high end 'Flagship' A/V equipment/components. Now let's compare and ask some questions that anyone purchasing a newly released Aventage unit: No 4K up-conversion No Darbee Darblet processing No Technicolor Image Certification No Marseille HD/UHD- 4K Image Processing (Tops of all Image Proc.) No balanced audio outputs No RCA 7.1CH or 5.1CH Analog outputs, just stereo No HDMI v2.0 No 1080p30/48/60 No Diagnostic Video Output (RCA) Does this A1040 support 1080p25/1080p30 and up? Does this A1040 have NTSC to PAL conversion? Does this A1040 support all 3 main Disc regions? Does this A1040 decode H.265 video? Does this A1040 play BDXL burned 128GB Bluray disks? Does the A1040 support hotkey YouTube, Amazon Instant Prime, HULUPlus, WSJ, etc streaming? Does the A1040 provide usage as a download/media USB server storage like RED/SONY/Netflix HD/4K units? Does the A1040 allow programmable remote HOT KEYS? Does the A1040 Tablet/phone allow programmability/Hot Keying? Does the A1040 allow language programming quick codes? How many? How much internal memory Storage in the A1040? Who in China manufactures the BD-A1040 for Yamaha? What are the quality of the electronic components (esp. Caps) used in the A1040? What are the MHL specifications for both audio and video on the BD-A1040? What are the audio characteristics THD+N and S/N ratios? Only 1 HDMI output, many equiv. competitors have 2 HDMI outputs Only one USB v2.0 port on back of unit. most high end units have(2 USB ports and should be v3.0 standard) Only a 1 Year warranty with the Yamaha Aventage BD-A1040, most competitors of equivalent pricing give 2-3 year warranties This unit matches 2012-2013 model products in features and technology standards. It appears to be quite behind the competition and doesn't match at all for Yamaha's high separates-components or AVENTAGE amplifiers eg: CX-A5000/MX-A5000, S-3000 amp. Yamaha's BD-A1040 is already an outdated legacy Blu-ray player to the A/V standards of today's released products (2014-15), and not a very competitive product either. This blu ray player should be in the category of their low models, not in the Aventage line. The YAMAHA BD-A1040 Blu-ray player is a huge disappointment, kind of a bust... One Star at best and should be selling at about a $99 street price (equivalent features), that's about it. I would like to hear answers to all questions/statements, regards El Gaupo
