Yamaha RX-V679 7.2-Channel Wi-Fi AV Receiver with AirPlay and Bluetooth Music Streaming, Party Mode

I chose this AV receiver for two primary reasons. First was for a quality home theatre system to replace my outdate and broken Onkyo receiver. The second reason was it's 2 zone capability that allowed separate music sources to each zone. Or the ability to play the same audio source to both zones simultaneously. I have outdoor speakers in my pool area and this receiver (along with it's IOS app) is a godsend for this type of use. With this unit and my iPhone or iPad, I can have complete control of music selections and volume. I absolutely love that! Speaking of the wonderful IOS app, it lets you control both zones independently , plus the app has full control of all types of receiver features, such as "scene types" music tone, input selection and much more. I find myself almost never using the actual remote control for the receiver. As a standard AV or music receiver, it is also plenty capable. I have a 7.2 Paradigm speaker system in my living room and it has plenty power to drive all of them plus integrating the powered subwoofer. Music listening is also great as it has plenty of DSP modes to suit any taste, including 7 channel stereo. The video quality to my 4K Samsung TV, through the HDCP 2.2 HDMI inputs and the ARC output is flawless. I also have an Apple TV 4K streamer as one of the HDMI inputs and that works perfectly with the receiver as well. So obviously, I am very pleased with this purchase. I used to love Onkyo receivers, but should I need to ever replace this unit or buy another receiver, I will definitely buying Yamaha again. I not only love the quality, but love the way they support their products. Especially with firmware updates, and continued updates to their mobile app.

I have owned may Yamaha receivers over the years, and this one does not disappoint. I just needed to upgrade because I wanted HDMI and USB options which mu older Yamaha did not have.

What an awesome receiver. I was looking to upgrade from my Yamaha RX-V1200, I bough in 2002, so I could have connectivity through HDMI and reduce the mass of cables running every which way from my components. In addition, WIFI and Bluetooth are a welcome addition. I am and always have been very impressed with Yamaha receivers. I did extensive research when I bought my first unit and the Yamaha units were head and shoulders over the others I reviewed. That trend continues. There is something for everyone in every price range. The apps downloaded to my iPhone & iPad made set up a cinch and controlling my unit almost flawless. My only drawback is some of my devices are not ARC compatible and was hoping that the remote would control them so I didn't have to resort to multiple remotes to control all functions. My Harmony 650 remote handles basic functions but not all. When I first connected my 679 and did the YAPO calibration it breathed new life into my Infinity speakers and sub woofer. My only regret is that I didn't buy the RX-V779. I am totally impressed with my new receiver and plan to enjoy it for years to come.

As mentioned in Pros, I welcome having wifi, bluetooth, and plenty of inputs [except phono-my only Con]. Front USB and media inputs enable quick use of other sources. If you have experience with using different media sources, the unit is pretty simple to set up and put to work quickly.

I have been using Yamaha receivers for over 30 years. Never had a problem. Been using this one for 1 month. Have not tried Musicast yet. Set up is easy & the Yamaha AV Setup app works well. It took a couple of hours to set up but was intuitive & fairly straightforward. I am really pleased with the YAPO calibration. I use Advent Tower Speakers, PSB center, Sub and Surround. My 5.1 home theater uses HDMI ARC. I like the way it automatically switches to the external speakers. I use the receiver for several functions and it works fine with all of them. Net radio & the Bluetooth function work well. The RX-V679 is such an excellent value for the features it has in this price range. It has quality sound & plenty of power. I highly recommend this amp.

I use the receiver for a number of functions and it excels at all of them: interfacing with my 3dTV for movies, streaming services, listening to high fidelity sound sources; I feel as if I am barely scratching the surface of what it is capable of doing. My complaints are that it has a clunky, nonintuitive interface when it comes to accessing some of the inputs like Pandora, various sound sources. My wife who is nontechnical finds it intimidating and illogical.

This is a great receiver that I bought after a sound card on my former Onkyo receiver went out. It took a couple of hours to set up but was fairly straightforward. The apps work great. As with all modern technology, it takes some time to get used too. I've had it a month and the only challenge I've experienced is that the TV (Plasma HD) picture is "grainy" during playback of bluetooth or radio (internet or regular). My home theater uses HDMI to Cat5 connectors to hook up with the TV so it may be an issue with the connectors. Otherwise, I would rate a 5 out of 5!

Needed a new receiver to replace my old Sony box. The RX-V679 is such a great value for the features it has. The iphone app can operate most of the features on the receiver. It had great reviews!! There are a lot of things to learn on the RX-V679, so I am just taking things one at a time. The bottom line is it sounds great!!

Yamaha just keeps getting better. Love everything about it! Musicast and the AV Controller add so much to the experience. Control everything from your phone. Set up is a bit challenging but they have excellent customer service and plenty of help to get a up and running.. This led to purchasing a 55 Samsung Curve 4K TV and Samsung Blue Ray Player. I have Klipsch Tower Speakers, center, Sub and Surround. If your thinking about any of these items I highly recommend just doing it!!! You can't go wrong!!!

This receiver powers our home theater with 7.1 channels. We replaced a Sony AV receiver and love the Yamaha so much more. Once it's set up and configured to your taste with all the options, it's easy to control and plays nice with other components.

Set up with a DVD player and a smart tv only needed three hdmi cables. I really like that it turns the tv audio off and on as needed. It truly is a great product with no flaws. Once I went through the set up process I good do the next one very easily. This is my second Yamaha receiver and I would not consider another brand.

I love the iOS app. It virtually eliminates the need for the physical remote control. I believe there is a similar app for android. One thing I disliked about the RX-V1300 was the remote. Not its features, but its durability. The buttons on them would begin failing after about two years; I replaced it four times in the 12 years I owned the receiver. - I also really like the AirPlay feature (works only with Apple devices). I have gobs of music loaded on my phone and now I can stream it directly to the receiver. There are a couple of minor glitches with it but overall it works very well. If you don't have Apple devices, you should be able to accomplish the same thing with the receiver's Bluetooth feature. - The Net Radio feature is also nice though I haven't used it much. There's quite an assortment of stations available from all over the world.

I love it. I can control everything from my phone. I don't have to run inside to adjust the volumn or change stations. My speakers sound so much better.I bought this receiver to replace a competitors. Like night and day. Best move that I could have made. Very pleased

I purchased to replace a lightnibg fried Harmon Kardon AVR3600. I have 7.1 set up with Polk 4 OHM front and center speakers, a polk 150 watt sub and small surrounds. I was using a power amp to drive the 4 ohm speakers with the HK, but don't need it with the Yamaha. I am really pleased with the YAPO calibration. a great product in this price range.

I replaced another brand receiver with the Yamaha since it had very good ratings. It is very simple to connect the kids' bluetooth devices to play their music. I play the radio myself more and that was easy to do. We have watched a few movies with the stereo sound and it changes the movie completely in a great way. My struggle is still just playing Zone 2 without the main zone. I have tried the instructions and even contacted Yamaha and still can't figure it out. It sounds good when both zones are on, but I can't separate them.

I use the receiver for home theatre, music and gaming. Sound quality is amazing, as I expected from a Yamaha product. Functions are nearly overwhelming. The Yamaha android app is an unexpected bonus, works perfectly!
