About Zeiss Ikon 50mm f/2.0 T* Planar

Planar T* 2/50 ZM The perspective of the human eye... The new standard for M-bayonet lenses. This lens is based on the renowned Carl Zeiss Planar design, a symmetric combination of 6 optical elements in 4 groups.

Its features include excellent resolving power, high image quality over the entire field, and outstanding flare control. The Planar T* 2/50 ZM lens opens up new creative possibilities for all-round photography, documentation and photojournalism.

Why M-mount?
• For more than 50 years now, passionate 35 mm photographers have been embracing the M-mount rangefinder camera system. From the lens designer's perspective, a rangefinder camera offers an exciting advantage over single lens reflex (SLR) cameras: more space. After all, there is no moving reflex mirror and drive mechanism. This allows for a short distance between the last lens element and the film meaning more opportunities for designing of superior lens types, including high performing wide-angle lenses.

A passion ready for the challenge
• For our lens designers, the chance to develop the Carl Zeiss family of T* ZM-mount lenses was a dream come true. They were free to follow their passion in pursuit of perfection in lens performance, taking full advantage of our uncompromising symmetric lens designs. The only limitation was to reserve 15 mm in front of the film for the TTL exposure metering, commonplace in M-mount cameras. The result is a complete range of the most advanced M-mount lenses ever made.

Superior in every way
• The Carl Zeiss range of T* ZM-mount lenses offers the highest possible standards in terms of performance, reliability and, of course, image quality. Quite simply, they are superior in every way. You can count on highly advanced flare control for crisp and brilliant images, for example. And virtually zero geometric distortion, ensuring precise accuracy when reproducing shapes especially useful when photographing products and architecture.

• Carl Zeiss T* ZM-mount lenses are specifically designed to minimize focus shift with aperture changes an important innovation withbig benefits for rangefinder photography. As a result, you can expect improved accuracy of the rangefinder-defined focus. While the precise 10-blade aperture with 1/3 stop interval click stops ensures exact exposure. For reliable performance, Carl Zeiss T* ZM-mount lenses are designed with a wear resistant filter mount and an extremely accurate rangefinder coupling mechanism.

Shockingly good lens

My first lens for a Leica M9 and I was asstounded by the contrast and the saturation of colours using this lens. I used this lens until I bought a 35mm summicron then moved back to the 50mm Zeiss Zm as the color and 3d pop to photos was much better with the Zeiss. The only real complaint is that the lens cap is very poorly designed. The Knurl on the tabs goes the "wrong way" so you drop it almost every time you try to put it on the lens after use. A minor complaint is that the filter size is...

Exceptional pairing with MILC camera

By

Use this lens on a Sony NEX-7 with outstanding results. Built like a tank, silky-smooth bokeh, sharp as a tack. I've owned 3 Zeiss lenses and they consistently produce the images I find most appealing.

An amazing little lens

By

from Tel Aviv, Israel  -  Photo Enthusiast

This is an amazing little gem. This lens is lightweight, super sharp, built well, focuses well, and flare proof. This is the most often used lens on my Zeiss Ikon. I haven't realized how good this lens was until I used my Nikon 50mm f/1.8 on my D90. The Zeiss made the Nikon look like a toy. It was blurry, compared to the Zeiss, and had tons of internal reflections which really degraded the photos. If you have an M mount camera, then you deserve to own this lens. At its low price do yourself a favor and order one now.

As good as any other Zeiss lens

By

from peoria, il  -  Semi-Professional

I got this lens for my Leica M6 because I've had a version of this lens for all my other cameras, Contax RTS3, Contax G2, Hassy 500cm, and my Nikon D300. This lens style (50mm planar T) has never failed me. I sell Nikon camera and lens for a living, and I am a closet Zeiss shooter.

Questions about this item:

Jack V  Will the ZM mount work on an M3? Is an adapter necessary?
ROGER B  Yes, this lens will work very well on your M-3. No adapter necessary. I purchased this same lens a little over a year ago for the exact same camera and the picture are wonderful.
Shopper  Can I use this lens w/my Olympus E-P3? Will metering work? I believe that Olympus has a converter for this lens/camera. Yes/No?
Andrew R  To use this lens on an EP-3 you would need an adapter (like this: http://www.adorama.com/VTM43ALM.html). Some adapters do provide electronic coupling between the body and the lens, however most do not. Metering may or may not be functional depending on the lens and adapter used.
Shopper  Is this lens compatible for my m6?
Helen O  Yes, this lens is compatible with the Leica M6.
