Three people our guest blogger is thankful for

By Leigh Caraccioli

November 25, 2011

Giving thanks shouldn't be limited to one week a year. We are fortunate that the photography community teems with giving individuals who enlighten, educate and inspire us all year round.

Through images, blogs, workshops, webinars, videos photographers share outstanding talents. Let's take a few moments to reflect on this Black Friday and make a point to express our appreciation for those who make a difference in our lives. So, I'd like to show my gratitude for three people who have impacted me positively.

Thank you, Joni Doolin

Joni is not a photographer; she's a muse. She's likely the smartest, most compassionate leader I know. No one in the last year that has inspired me more than this amazing woman, CEO and Founder of People Report. I shoot many events, but People Report Best Practices Conference and their Summer Camp: Workforce Symposium satiate the heart and brain. That's Joni's thing. Enrichment. I feel lucky when I am running around with my camera at these Dallas events because the speakers, the relevant message, the socially conscience tribe Joni and her husband Wally have amassed is remarkable. Her commitment to community service with organizations like Share Our Strength makes me want to do more, give more, impact more. She inspires me to change the world. I am grateful for Joni because she makes me believe in the goodness of others and the power of me. (@luckypenny)

Thank you, Tamara Lackey

I was so nervous when I first ran into photography icon Tamara Lackey (quite literally) at WPPI in Vegas but she has a knack for making you feel at ease. She has a lightness of being that's fun, clever and youthful. (She can pull off wearing braids, and I love that!) The way she captures life in photography has made her world famous but she oozes girl-next-door humility. Her photography style is poignant yet, at the same time, simple. But she is so much more than a woman with a camera. She's a charming little genius of a show host, author, mother, and teacher. She gives herself to others to help them succeed in projects such as reDefine. I am grateful for Tamara because she inspires me over and again with her gift of giving. (@TamaraLackey)

Thank you, Dustin Meyer.

Yeah, he would have been the guy throwing paper wads at me from two rows back in science class.  But mostly, he my tutor and confidante. This business year has been full of growing pains for me. Dustin has endured my phone calls, emails, and countless "How do I do this..." "What should I do here..." "Does this sound stupid..." questions and he's still standing. Sure he is a stunning photographer, articulate blogger and he's as witty as they come. But not many people would take the time to create two customized videos for you when you ask "How do I edit in Lightroom?" I appreciate Dustin for being my friend and sounding board. You helped me keep my sanity this year. (@dustinmeyer)

Is there someone who has impacted you that you could thank this week? Thank them in the comments, below! Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, everyone!
