Today, Panasonic announced the new LUMIX GX7 16.0 MP mirrorless camera to its lineup. Officially called the DMC-GX7S and sporting a new sleek retro design, the LUMIX GX7 features a 16-megapixel, micro four-thirds sensor and in-body image stabilization capabilities for exceptional image quality. The 90-degree tilt-able live viewfinder is an excellent feature to have when filming full HD video, and 22 filter effects deliver even greater creative control.
Smaller and sleeker than a traditional DSLR, the new Lumix is dressed in a magnesium alloy, full die-cast frame that will allow photographers a more subtle profile when filming on the street. The aforementioned tilt-able live viewfinder, with 2764K-dot equivalent high resolution and approximately 100% color reproduction (using Adobe RGB as a reference), is also touch enabled, which is a great asset when filming in 1920 x 1080p full HD video. Not many cameras can film with this resolution and quality, and the GX7 will even give you the choice to work with either AVCHD or MP4 formats.
More on the video aspects: this little camera also gives you built-in focus peaking in live view, and options such as Pin-Point autofocus, which allows you to set magnification from 3x to 10x, and a One-Shot AF setting that will set rough focus on your subject and then let you go back to manual focus to refine focus so it’s perfect. Talk about control. Even more, full-time autofocus and tracking autofocus are available in 24p, and 16MP Program / Aperture / Shutter / Manual photo modes are available in video, delivering exceptional professional-like video recording by manually setting aperture and shutter speed.
In a first for the Lumix line, the GX7 incorporates an optical image stabilizer-like technology directly in the camera body. The in-camera Lumix MEGA O.I.S. technology works with interchangeable, non-optically stabilized lenses, so you can use any lens without worrying about unwanted blur.
Panasonic’s popular Creative Control mode includes 22 filter effects with extensive control over each filter parameter, allowing users to realize their true artistic vision. The Creative Panorama function lets users shoot horizontal or vertical panoramic images from consecutive shots by overlaying the previous picture. Multiple images can then be stitched together in the camera to create one single-wide image to capture the entire scene.
The new Panasonic Image App, available for iOS and Android devices, lets users control zoom, set focus, and shoot remotely using a smartphone or tablet. NFC (Near Field Communication) technology connects the Panasonic Lumix GX7 camera with a smartphone, allowing users to instantly upload and share images on their favorite social network sites. Wi-Fi sets up quickly and photo transfers can be made right after shooting.
The Panasonic Lumix GX7 is available now for pre-order at Adorama, body only is $999 or with a 14-42mm kit lens for $1,099.
