I've had multiple customers purchase this product for smaller remote locations and have received nothing but positive feed back from them. The reliability of the units at this price point is second to none.

This Smart-UPS is perfect for most installations where varying power requirements, coupled with ease of monitoring and maintenance is required. I find the abundance of protected outlets a huge plus, particularly when some of the connections are made with wall-warts.

Being off-grid, I needed something larger than the standard UPS - even though I just have a stand-alone PC. Talked first to technical support rep, who was outstanding in ensuring that the SMC 1000 would work with a solar system. Had to get some additional help with getting the PowerChute to work - that's just me. The second technical support rep that helped me with PowerChute, also went above and beyond. My electrician recommended the APC brand. I concur - not only because their equipment is great; but so is the customer service.

Works as advertised. Nice display of information. Would highly recommend the outlet arrangement be redesigned. There is not much room between outlets and both rows face the same direction. The two rows of outlets should face in opposite directions to allow for room for the cords on voltage adapters.

This unit gives you sine wave output with no frills at an attractive price. Be aware of the limitations of this new model at its price point. This is not a desktop product, so don't expect extras like ethernet or coax surge protection. It is less capable than some other APC UPSs with equivalent VA ratings; for example, the SMC1000 is rated for 600 watts, vs. 700 for the SMT1000. It has a 2-year warranty, rather than the 3 year warranty carried by most recent APC products. Most puzzlingly, its management interface is much less chatty than even my consumer-grade APC units: for example, you can't query it for current load (though you can get that information from the front-panel display). All my consumer-grade APC products provide that information in software. If these limitations don't concern you, it's a good value, and is the lowest-priced APC UPS with sine wave output. It's perfect for protecting the availability of a small server.

This UPS definitely keeps my small server & data running during brief outages. However, the UPS does NOT have any surge protection on the CAT5 networking coming in and out of my protected system. If a surge hits the same circuit, it could fry a network card or worse simply by conducting over one of the many network patch cables installed. This is a small worry, but I upgraded from a unit that had built-in CAT5 surge protection, and I feel that I should have been warned that I was losing that feature when I upgraded to a higher-capacity unit.

The APC Smart-UPS C 1000 VA with LCD is an UPS (uninterruptible power supply) with a 120 V output and input and 8x NEMA 5-15R battery-powered outlets. It features pure sine wave output on battery which simulates utility power for servers and sensitive electronics, an LCD status display for quick status updates at a glance and is cold-start capable, which means the outlets provide AC battery power when the utility power goes out.
It is also an efficient unit with a patent-pending operating mode that bypasses electrical components in good condition in order to provide a high operating efficiency to the rest of the load. Because it generates less heat, it also reduces utility costs and it prolongs battery life by regulating the charge voltage according to battery temperature.
A host of other features are included in the Smart-UPS line, including but not limited to, remote network management, hot-swappable user replaceable batteries and predictive failure notification.
