Questions & Answers

ORION E : Can you switch to shoot vertical? I have seen demos and nothing regarding this. If so, how does it switch to vertical?BETTY K : just turn the ball head and then it will go verticalMARTIN Q : You can switch to shoot vertical very easily by loosening the knob on the ballhead and moving the camera to a vertical position, then tightening the knob when it's in the position you want it in. There's a slot that allows you to do this. Quite simple. Great solid versatile tripod!DANIEL H : There's a slot in the side of the ball base that allows you to take the camera verticle. Love this tripod. Carry it everywhere.L. DUANE H : Yes, I can switch to shoot vertical as I have an "L" shaped bracket on my camera. It is both quick and accurate in either position.ANDRE D : I'm not sure what you mean by vertical, but yes you can really reach all positions with the ball-head. You can move it up/down following that special cut and you can also turn it left/right, so you can really reach everything. I got it two years ago, did all kinds of shots with it including shooting starts where it's essential, and never got any troubles with it.NICHOLAS B : I can move the head so that the mount plate surface is perpendicular with the ground, and place a canon eos 50d in to shoot verticals. The ball will rotate and allow 180 degrees of rotational motion from side to side. So, yes, it is vertical friendly.FRANK C : Yes, you can switch to vertical. The ball head has a slot in it which allows for the stem (the part the camera attaches to) to go horizontal, which then allows the camera to shoot vertical. Look closely at the ball head in the fifth listing picture, the one of the backside of the ballhead.
Shopper : Can the ball head be removed and replaced with something else?DANIEL F : Hello, yes the ballhead can be removed and replaced with any standard thread sized replacement. I swapped mine out with a pistol grip head. much easier for me to operateSUSAN S : yes, most screw on/off. I replaced this ballhead with the 498 as the original could not prevent creep on d600 with Tele/flash shooting vertical plane. If you only have a light camera, this should not be a problem. Keep in mind that the reason mine would creep was because of weight off the camera from lens and fash unit in the vertical.BRAD E : It can. The head connects to a standard 3/8 in. stud on the tripod itself. It can be removed and replaced with a different head, umbrella adapter, etc.BRETT T : YesHECTOR S : Yes you can replace it
MAXWELL P : One additional question. As I stated, I have a Nikon D5100 but it has an 18-200 lens which increases the weight. How sturdy is this for this type of camera/lens? Is there any issue with "creep"? ThanksCHRISTINA P : I have a Canon 7D with a 24-70 lens, and it works just great. I'm not quite sure how it'll work with your set up.KENNETH C : As long as all you are doing is still shots with camera in "fixed" position, the tri-pod works fine. It can handle that camera and a bit heavier. I have even taken video using the the tri-pod in question with a canon fx-100 (heavier than your Nikon). Obviously, you can't pan.DANIEL H : I couldn't be happier with this tripod. I have not experienced any issues related to weight of lens and camera. I use it almost exclusively for landscape with a cable or remote release.DIANE H : Hello, I have a 70-200mm canon lens that I've used with Canon's 7D on this tripod and so far I've not had any issues. I've been very impressed with how sturdy it feels...no shake whatsoever when the shutter button is pressed. DianeANDREW M : This tripod is plenty beefy for that camera and lens. I would go up one heavier if I had a bigger camera or was going to shoot into a lot of wind.SHARIQ A : I have used this with d7000 + grip an 80-200 2.8 and flash and it was extremely sturdy. Your setup is very light.CHRISTOPHER G : I have the same camera/lens, and the tripod is rock solid. No worries.BECKY W : I have a Canon T2i with a Sigma 200-500 zoom. I'm not sure how heavy that is but very awkward and I haven't had any problems. THOMAS F : I have a D300 and my major lens is the 18-200mm. I have no problems using this tripod with that combination. I am really happy with this tripod.FRANK C : I regularly use mine with a Nikon D90 + 18-200 lens without any creep observed.GEORGE R : This tripod with the ball head mount is rated for 11 pounds so I don't see why you would have a problem with creep. I have not experienced any problem like that . I am shooting with a D80 and usually with the 18-200 lens, so my weight is less, but not drastically so.CHRISTOPHER E : It is extremely sturdy. There should not be a creeping issue as I have used heavier 300 lens with the tripod with no problem.MOSES F : I have a Sony DSLR with a heavy Tamron zoom lens, and it has no problem holding it.

Just what I wanted.

The height is perfect for me and I really like how easy it is to adjust the tripod legs. It is a little heavier than I wanted but I love all the other features.

stable, stylish, sturdy

its a great tool for me as i'm just learning with a DSLR camera. so far it's helping understand aperture and shutter speed as i can read and apply new info without holding the camera.

VERY SATISFIED

Like to photogrsph the moon, and other low light landscape types of scenes, and this was just the what I needed to stablize my shots and allow longer exposures.

Strong tripod

The only thing i did not like about the kit was the ball head design. The friction release to allow it to pivot is aparently linked to the ball release. I do not like this, as it is complicated to use it for panoramic photos.

The MK294A3-A0RC2 is the larger 3 section kit combined with the detachable aluminum ball head. It is the best solution for stability and rapid movements. The anti-shock collar protects your camera from accidental impact, whilst the 3 faced design column prevents rotation to allow for increased accuracy and steadfastness. The leg locks provide a rock-solid support and with their innovative adjustability they provide a consistent and excellent performance.
