Bought this to use as an simple, inexpensive server. So far it has performed well in that regard. Hardware is not the fastest, but it is adequate, and has lived up to expectations so far.

Primarily bought to install Arch Linux on the device. Never even booted for the pogoplug software. This is the version if you want to install linux on it. We'll see how it holds up.

I converted the Pogoplug to a VAMP player, to emulate a Squeezebox, and it works great

Came with PogoPlug OS, which might be great for some people, but didn't work at all as a music server for my Sonos S5. Thought I was going to have to throw it in the closet (the PogoPlug -- maybe forever), but found PlugApp Linux instead, After finding a mini USB drive and spending about two hours on install work (all done from Terminal on a MacBook, but could have been any computer), I had Samba working well with the Sonos. Only had to restart the Pogoplug unit once in two months. Seems great to me. Excellent value. There are other solutions, but physical packaging of PogoPlug is interesting.

This was easy to use and set-up. I wish my network speeds were better when I'm on the LAN but that may be the hard drive I have hooked up.

Allows all the laptops in home to access our media and files saved on external hard drive- without being attached. I love this thing, and have not even begun to tap it's uses. I can't wait to be away from home and still be able to show pictures and play songs stored safely at home! It can optionally add all new media if desired.

The Pogoplug POGO-E02G Multimedia Sharing Device is a compact device that allows you to access your photos, movies, and music via the Internet. The magenta and silver box plugs into your Internet router via the included Ethernet cable. Simply plug a hard drive or flash drive into any of its four USB 2.0 ports and you'll gain access to all stored files from anywhere you can access the Internet.
The Pogoplug can be configured in a matter of minutes. The web-based setup program detects the device on your network, and allows you to create a username and password so that you can securely access your files from any web browser, anywhere. Mobile access is also available via the iPhone, iPod touch, Android, Palm, and Blackberry.
Photos, videos, and music can be viewed with ease - the Pogoplug will automatically find them on connected hard drives. You can also browse the drives manually, allowing you to download any stored file, regardless of its type. There are no hidden fees with the Pogoplug for remote access - the account is completely free, ensuring that your only cost for the device is the cost of the device itself.
Optional software is available for your Mac, Windows, or Linux computer. It provides desktop access to drives connected to the Pogoplug, and can also copy files to files stored on your Pogoplug drive automatically. Simply configure "watched" folders - any files added to those folders will automatically be copied to a connected drive on the Pogoplug, ensuring that your latest downloads are available remotely.
