Shopper : Is this portrait or neutral?Kevin A : Do not really use itSTEPHEN R : This filter replaces the gray card and is commonly used for Color correction, Everyday, Home, Macro photography, Portraits, Sporting events, Studio, Travel.KWOK S : it is neutralMICHAEL B : They make both. I believe the portrait one is described at warm balanced. My suggestion is to read the description carefully. BTW, I have the neutral filter and it's great. Used it on a ferry to Canada, exposures with and without. With were perfect. Without were very, very blue. Don't use it all the time, but when needed, it works.
Shopper : Is this the neutral or portrait ExpoDisc?Kevin A : Do not really like itDANNIE O : There are several available. Choose the one that fits and with minor adjustments, if necessary, the ExpoDisc makes color balancing a breeze.FRANK C : I believe that this is the neutral version. The portrait version is labeled as such. Hope that helps!
Abbie C : Stupid question- if I have a 28-75mm lens, do i get a 77mm?ROGER D : get a disc to fit the largest size mm lens u have.so that it will fit on ur largest lins u have. Then its very simple to hold it over smaller mm lens with one hand.GARY K : Hello, I would think the 77mm will be to big if you plan on screwing it on. Look up your lens on Adorama and you should be able to determine what size filter you need. Of course, you can just hold the expodisc in front of the lens and get the white balance setting. If you do that the 77mm will work for most, if not all, of the lens you have. Hope this helps.STEVEN H : Yes you just position it over the lens. DANIEL B : The "77mm" size indicates this item attaches to a front lens element that accepts 77mm filters. (77mm is the diameter of the front lens element.) The "28-75mm" speciation you mentioned is the focal length of your lens. I do not know the specific brand/model of your lens, but I believe it would be unusual for a 28-75mm zoom lens to accept 77mm filters. Of course, there are "step-up" adapters that allow mounting larger diameter filters (like this 77mm) on small diameter lenses. PAOLO P : What is the filter thread size on your lens? That's what you have to check.DANIEL B : No question is stupid. You can hand hold the Expodisc over your lens as you lens is smaller than the size of the disk when creating a custom white balance.CHRIS C : Depends on the filter size of that lens. You need to match the filter size with lens.

Expo Disc is Very Cool

I saw the expodisc last year and thought it would be neat, but did not purchase it. I just bought it and love it. I should had gotten it sooner. It fits in your pocket, take it out, hold it over the lens and set your custom white balance. It is that fast. I use it for indoors at church and for weddings. I don't think it is needed for outdoors.

Essential for good white balance

I was happily suprise how easy and precise the white balance calibration could be done with EXPOD52. Can't live without it and going to buy one more. :)

Execellent White Balance Tool

Great for white balance in the field. Replacement for a white balance card that's awkward to carry. Also great when you don't want to ask the subject to hold a card. For studio work, I use a Porta Brace White Balance Card. The ExpoDisc easily clips into the lens that I use most of the time. Slight disadvantage: it neasures incident not reflected light. The camera has to be pointed at the light source. I'll do some testing to see if there's a big difference between incident and reflected. Good gadget to have in the pack I hike with.

works well except for low light situatio

the Expo disc was easy to use and I followed the youtube video they have on their website, which is great because they make specific videos for a specific camera, which you can follow through precisely. However, for low light situations, you really have to point the camera right at the light source for it to calibrate, and have to lower your shutter speed down considerably to get the correct exposure for the white balance to be read successfully. Once that' done, the white balance is really perfectly done and stress-free.

Better than Auto!

Indoors with natural light, I think it really works great! I'm still getting the hang of it outside in natural light conditions. Even though it's the neutral one, my results still seem really warm when used outside. I will there was a neck strap on the disc itself instead of on the case.

Custom White Balance - Modernized

The instructions on how to create a custom white balance with the ExpoDisc was short and fairly straight-forward. After testing it for a few minutes, I found that it was easier and faster for me to get the right white balance photo when switching the camera to auto or aperture priority mode. This could be the fact that I was holding a 82mm Expodisc up to my 77mm threaded lens while trying to get the right settings in manual (people suggested I get the larger ExpoDisc and just hold it up in front of lens so I don't have to buy various sizes). For me, manual mode resulted in some crazy inconsistencies because I was trying to change settings while juggling my camera and the ExpoDisc. I am really happy with how this product works as well as the quality construction.

expodisc

This is great to get a quick transition and more accurate white balance for your photos in different lighting scenarios. All you have to do is pop it on the front of your lens, take a pic and set it as your custom white balance. Can't find anything to complain about this product.

A Lifesaver!!

After reading much about the ExpoDisc, I knew had to bite the bullet and give it a try. I am so glad I did!! I cannot emphasize the difference this tool has made in my final product. It is so easy to use and saves me so much time in post processing. The exposure and colors are spot on!!! I regret not purchasing this MUCH sooner. It has changed my photography forever!!!

Very useful

This is a good substitute for a grey card and a white balance card. It works as advertised and takes up minimal space in my bag. When used as directed, it is very accurate and is also a suitable replacement for most incident light meters. Recommended.

Life changing

I have struggled with white balance forever, it seems. I have tried Kelvin, a gray card, and more than I can remember, but the Expodisc has given me by far the best SOOC results. I love it for both white balance and setting exposure. Watch the videos on the Expodisc website by Zach and Jody Gray - they are very helpful for learning how to use the expodisc correctly.

Excellent Tool

I've had the 77mm version for years and have found it very useful. With my newer 82mm lens, I had to get a bigger version. For smaller lens, I just hold the expodisc in front of the lens. It's a invaluable tool for difficult lighting situations.

Very useful white balance!

I received this complimentary with my Nikkor f/2.8 70-200mm lens and so i assumed it would be junk. It is actually really helpful for white balancing. I've always just used a white balance card but this is much better and easier to use.

Great product

I am taking a photography class and, until now, I had no idea how to obtain a white balance value. I have gray cards, but the ExpoDisc is much easier to use and I feel that I get accurate color. I purchased a 77 mm because it is large enough to hold over the end of all my lenses. I gave it 4 stars because of the high price.

The Solution

Unbelievable how well this product works. VERY fast and immediate color correction. My daughter plays high school basketball and EVERY gym has a different lighting scheme. Before, I had to rely on the auto-white balance in the camera (universally poor) or a gray card. With the Expodisc this is a 60 second process and the color is perfect. You will not believe the results if you are not already color correcting. The only problem is the price. $100. Are you kidding me?

Perfect WB, wish I'd purchased earlier!

I shoot a ton of sporting events, including amateur Hockey. Anyone that has ever tried to meter a WB in an amateur rink knows how difficult it can be! Different lighting types and mixed lighting create a WB nightmare. After purchasing the ExpoDisc, WB is now a breeze!

The answer to your white balance issues

By Calmik

This product works amazing. Currently in my photo class we are going over white balance and we did some testing. we shot a gray card (has black, 18% gray, and white) and set that as our custom white balance and it worked good. We then shot just the 18% gray. We then used the expodisc and the results were almost night and day. The white balance was perfect. the whole class was amazed. the ease of this product can not be surpassed, your shots will come out noticeably different. I would whole he...

Get accurate color in difficult lighting with the patented ExpoDisc, the fast and easy digital white balance filter. Simply read and set white balance with the ExpoDisc in place before shooting and you'll reduce or eliminate the need for post-capture color adjustments.

Get the white balance solution that is quickly becoming the preferred method of achieving accurate color balance for professional photographers today.

Here is how it works:
Varying levels of colorcast typically occur in digital photography and require compensation as part of the process to create a photograph with good color fidelity.

Until now, photographers have had to rely on gray/white cards to solve this problem. The ExpoDisc is an easy to use custom white balance solution that eliminates the inconvenience and inconsistencies of other methods.

It is a neutral diffusion filter that gathers ambient light and passively transmits 18% of it through to your camera's light meter, effectively producing a "gray frame".

You then set a custom white balance using the "gray frame" that results in accurate color in most lighting conditions. Your camera essentially compensates for and neutralizes the colorcast it sees through the ExpoDisc.

ExpoImaging ExpoDisc Features

  • Fine tune your color at point of capture
  • Works in mixed, or difficult lighting
  • Replaces your gray cards and white cards
  • Spend more time shooting and less on workflow
  • It's convenient, fast and easy-to-use
