Great Item Where did they go!?!

This is a good light and in some cases, it is a spectacular light.  Would have been better, actually much better with TTL.  As it turns out, I seldom use TTL, but what I would use this light for, TTL would be very, very handy.  Read the dimensions, this is not a small package.  Takes a little setup but nothing unexpected.  I mostly use other strobes with light modifiers but there have been a couple of times, this was the ideal light source.

Excellent Light

Awesome; I just started playing with this flash and it's really powerful.  I bought some 10" gels and easily cut them to fit inside the diffuser.  I will be experimenting with different colors etc. with my Nikon D3.  Great flash and well made

Very Cool!

Although it's only a "manual" control flash (no ttl) it is powerful enough and portable enough for just about any photoshoot. Rated at 400WS it's easily powerful enough to be used in softbox or large umbrella if needed. 
With snap-on battery, no cords to worry about like "other" brands.
Highly recommended for easy fill light and bright "fashion" ringflash look.

The RF-400 Ring Li-On 400ws Ringflash has been a great lighting for my photography.  It is very portable and powerful.  It is worth the investment!
I have ordered my second as a backup and additional lighting effect.  I highly recommend to all my fellow photographers!

Great Ringlight option !

This is a great little ring light for the money. It came well packaged and except for the AA batteries, everything needed to get started right away. Within 10 minutes I was trying my first shots with it. It includes several, threaded adapter rings to attach it to most any, common filter-thread size. For my purposes, I actually like the LED light system better than a traditional xenon strobe, as it makes setting exposures easier because the light can stay on continuously, allowing WYSIWYG and eliminating guesswork. No hassles with flash synch either. If you want an inexpensive way to light macro shots the way pros do, this is a great way to get started and at a great price.

Really not too thrilled with it. I bought it as an off camera flash that i would be using with my Nikon camera with commander mode. It doesnt sync and bc I misplaced a piece of the styrofoam from the original packaging i cannot return it. It is great for on camera lighting but do not recommend if you are trying to use with commander.

Not impressed

For great high key shots, this is the way to go.  It's on the heavy side, so maybe not great handheld for everyone.

Bulky but nice

Others questioned its power, I have no such reservations.  This throws a ton of light and I have no reason to doubt its rating.  It is heavy and the brackets are adequate but not as substantial as I would have liked but more substantial brackets would also contribute to the weight.  Controls are pretty straightforward, no surprises.   For the sale price I consider it a pretty good value.

Great Addition to Close-up Photos and inexpensive

Considering the low price point, it seems pretty well constructed. It's pretty bright at top setting, so has a decent range. The only real disappointment would be that the connecting cable doesn't unplug at either end. That could be an issue if it's damaged it can't be easily replaced.

I have looked at this type of strobe device several times. Not at all happy with either the quality was low or the price was way to high. This I turned out to be perfect across the board. I love it and I love the portability the pack gives me.

This is a very good value for the money. It is easy to use and makes lighting for macro-shoots very simple. The light around the subject is even. Hot spots are not a problem.

Love the FlashPoint Macro Ring Light

I bought this to support starting with some macro photography.  I'm sure more serious people will want more power than this can put out, but this is a great, inexpensive way to get started.  It also may be a good additional fill for short-range portrait work.

I'd recommend using rechargeable batteries as it looks like I'll be going through the conventional alkalines I have in there now pretty quickly.

Great value for getting into macro photography

You get what you pay for... It's ok.. I have since also purchased a new sb-600 and am trying to adapt it for macro.. the VL-48 is ok for things you can take multiple shots of to get it perfect... but I would rather use a flash with i-ttl for the things you have one  chance to get...fastest shutter speed I can use is 1/125 or I get the banding from the shutter curtains... for$.... It's ok

Adapter ring did not tighten on lens making ring light pivot. Maybe it is supposed to do that. Have not used it yet but I think it will perform like what I anticipated.

OK for what you pay

Based on the price I admittedly was not expecting much, but I did expect to be able to use it.  My biggest complaint was the same as that of several others. I couldn't keep it from falling off of the lens long enough to take any pictures. I am arranging to send it back tomorrow, but am not sure what to attempt to replace it with. I'm rely not interested in spending a ton of money on something like this but I do a lot of macro photography, Stay tuned for chapter 2 of this continuing saga.

Illuminating!

I recently purchased a 65 mm macro lens, and lighting is essential for getting a great picture with macro photography. From what I have used of this ring light, it works well, attached to the camera easily, and is simple to use but works great. I would recommend this because it lights up a picture great, and has different light styles and settings.
