We use to use LaCie Drives but whenever there was a problem, they could not care less, just shunt you to a third party data recovery company who wants an arm and a leg to get the data. Switched to G-TECH, and we now have 18 of their drives. Only one of them ever showed a problem (making noises) and G-Tech replaced it with no hassle. Highly recommend G-Tech for reliability, durability and support.

FireWire doesn't work with time machine. Thought it just applied to the older versions, but unfortunately when I tried to set it up to sync it kept giving an error. Ended up getting the USB version and it works fine.

I love these hard drives. I've been using as my main file storage for years and now have the 3 drives stacked.

I love these hard drives. I've been using as my main file storage for years and now have the 3 drives stacked.
The G-Technology G-Drive (Gen 6) 3TB Professional Strength External Hard Drive is a high-speed and high-capacity storage solution designed to seamlessly work with Mac OS X. Featuring USB 3.0 and Firewire 800 interfaces, it is automatically detected by your Mac for plug-and-play flexibility and can be used to store large files, or to back-up entire systems through Time Machine. Its interfaces are also backward compatible with USB 2.0 and Firewire 400. With up to 16 customizable partitions, you can tailor the storage to your specific needs. It comes preformatted with HFS+ with Journaling and can be reformatted to work with Windows operating systems.
Sporting a sleek minimalist design, the G-Drive has a brushed aluminum housing, with a built-in heat sink on bottom. Using the heat sink to cool the drive eliminates the need for fans, allowing it to stay cool while running silently.
