Questions & Answers

Shopper : will this work well with a Gitzo G1127 Mountaineer Sport carbon tripod?MATTHEW W : I purchased one for my series 0 and series 2 Gitzo, and I think it is great. It is not as buttery smooth as the RRS or Kirk heads, but for the price difference it is fantastic. It has no problem keeping my Nikon D7000 with 80-400mm lens level and steady. I do have larger heads but like the one knob convenience of this one, the weight and size too. I think it would be a good overall head for a series 1 Gitzo as well, assuming your load is below the max load of 8.8 lbs the head states.KENNETH C : I'm not familiar with that tripod, but as long as it has the standard screw size for mounting a head, I don't see why it wouldn't work.RONALD E : As long as your tripod has a standard tripod thread the head should be okay. I have this head attached to a smaller Gitzo tripod and it works fine.William F : I have a problem with the advertisement of this device. When I bought it, there was a rebate of $80. I never received my rebate. I called and wrote about it. I got no response. I never used it. W Fong

For its size and weight, this is a very Rigid ballhead

For its size and weight, this is a very Rigid ballhead. It has no problem holding my D810 with 70-200mm f2.8, and it really does key that combination into my tripod very effectively. I upgraded the top plate with an Arca swiss compatible quick release to save time in setting up my tripod, which was very easy to do. The only downside is there is no independent pan, but I knew this before buying and my principle need was light weight, so the tradeoff for me was very worthwhile given the rigidity.

I bought it in kit with tripod.

I used this head with my Canon 5D and 24-105L. It is very nice combination with GT1542T.

Quality Product

Strong and easy to use controls. The only minor drawback is that it's a little bit heavy.

Gitzo ball head

Small, light, sturdy. It doesn't get any better for the size.

Fast, Easy to Use, Well Made

I use this on a monopod, a Gitzo aluminum 2341. It helps with angling the monopod the way I like, and giving some extra height to the monopod. I added a 1.75" Kirk clamp to make it an Arca release ball. With just a single control the ball is quick and easy to manipulate. The ball moves easily, but is not buttery smooth like Kirk and RRS ball heads. For the price (especially with the current rebate) it is a bargain. I would use it on a tripod as well, but already have one on mine. It works well when used with an 80-400mm VR Nikon.

I used this head with my Canon 5D and 24-105L. It is very nice combination with GT1542T.

An innovative teflon coating applied to the ball itself lets you make camera positioning adjustments more smoothly than ever before by eliminating all trace of jarring skipping, so you can frame the perfect photograph first time without wasting precious seconds micro corrections. Add ergonomic design and advanced precision engineering to guarantee performance locking, and your camera is not only quickly manoeuvred, but also rapidly securely blocked where you want it.

The G1177M's single indexable ratchet lever for locking both pan and ball movement guarantees speed in use without sacrificing stability or locking efficiency. The maximum load of 8.8 Lb and the reversible 1/4 - 3/8 fitting make it suitable for a wide range of uses.
